Not Just an Addiction – Chapter 9

“Hey, what’s the hold-up?” her customer asked suddenly, interrupting Shane’s thoughts.  Startled, Shane realised she had been standing with the razor buzzing in her hand for a couple of minutes without actually doing anything to the girl’s hair.

“Sorry,” Shane mumbled, swallowing hard as she set herself to her task.  As she worked, her mind drifted back to the night of the concert at The Planet.  Having had a few days to think about it, Shane realised that she had let Gabby’s manipulative words about Alice and Lara betraying Dana get under her skin, and she had lashed out at her friends in some deluded effort to defend Dana’s memory.  She knew that Dana had loved both Alice and Lara, and had been completely devoted to both women at different points in her life.  That was part of the reason Shane had overreacted upon seeing Alice and Lara together – it seemed so wrong for them to hook up behind Dana’s back.  Having had time to consider it, though, Shane realised that Alice and Lara must have gotten together because of Dana, and not in spite of her.  If she erased her own feelings from the picture completely, Shane was sure that Dana would actually be relieved to know that Alice and Lara were finding comfort in each other during such a difficult time.

But, even though Shane recognised these things on a rational level, she still couldn’t quite rid herself of her anger over the whole thing.  That was the major reason why she hadn’t contacted Alice yet.  She didn’t want to hurt her friend more than she already had by saying more awful things to her.

Even three days later, Shane was only just beginning to figure out why her feelings were suddenly so wrapped up in her friends’ love lives.  It wasn’t like her to pass such severe judgement onto others, especially those she cared about.  Shane knew her own choices hadn’t been the most well-informed through her life, yet Alice had never judged her.  In fact, when Shane had decided not to go through with the wedding with Carmen, it was Alice who she had first turned to in order to ask her to explain things to Carmen.  Alice had been so wonderfully concerned and non-judgemental during that time, it made Shane cringe to remember it.  Why can’t I return that favour to Alice now? she wondered.

    1. whew, I guess I should cancel that all points bulletin I had out for you then? Welcome back! and argh at the stubborness you’ve built into Lace (and yay at the same time!). Looking forward to your resolution (feel free to take another 50 posts to do it…or are you already thinking of a sequel…nothing like insistent fanfic fans) and am sure it will be a “happily ever after”?

    2. LOL @ I.M.A. Badfriend. :D Good to see Shane’s thoughts on Alice/Lara. I’m glad she realized that Alice feelings for Lara were deeper than she thought. Only Alice and Lara also need to know their true feeling for each other…with some help of Shane.

    3. cool can’t wait to see what happens next with alice and lara but I hope that shane can help them as it was partly her fault that they broke up please post soon I love it

    4. What do you mean, you’re nearing the end? But… (little voice) I only just discovered this story! Anyway, do what you will. I love the way you captured what was behind the silence and stubbornness of Lara and Alice in their sort-of confrontation. Please post soon.

    5. Oh. My. God. I just happened to stumble across this story tonight, so I read all of it. You have to continue this soon! I like Alice and Lara together, but this story makes me love them. I really hope that Yoda has some words for Lara that will make her go running to Alice. They need each other! Great job, and please update ASAP!! :-)
