Not Just an Addiction – Chapter 9
“So, what can I do for you?” Shane asked what felt like her fiftieth customer of the day, who was just settling into her chair at Wax. As the girl explained the hairstyle she was looking for – something involving a mohawk and purple hair dye – Shane felt her mind wandering for what must have been the fiftieth time that day.
Putting her mind into autopilot, she began to work on her customer’s hair and let her thoughts wander back to the only topic it seemed interested in lately: her confrontation with Alice and Lara. It had already been three days since she had walked in on them kissing in the bathroom of The Planet, and she still hadn’t spoken to Alice about it. Alice had left repeated messages on Shane’s machine and had even stopped by her house once, but Shane had avoided speaking to her. She felt bad for hurting Alice, but she also knew she needed time to cool off and think things through before she spoke to her again. Her feelings were still a jumbled mix of anger, sadness, and guilt – guilt, she had realised, about not only the hurtful effect her words had had on both Alice and Lara that night, but also about Dana.
Shane reached over to grab the razor and paused just before she began to shave most of the hair off her customer’s head. Lately, it seemed like every time she heard the buzzing whir of the razor, she couldn’t help but remember the day Dana had come to Wax after the chemo she had been undergoing had caused her hair to fall out in clumps. Shane had been more than happy to help Dana to reclaim a bit of control over what was happening to her body by shaving off her hair, but she had also secretly been terrified as the reality of Dana’s illness had made itself painfully clear to all of them. Shane remembered the frightened look on Dana’s face that she had tried to hide behind a large pair of sunglasses and an even bigger hat. But, more than the fear and sadness of that moment, the image that always repeated itself in Shane’s mind now was the genuine smile she had managed to coax out of Dana just before she had begun her work. Even now, she could almost hear Dana’s burst of infectious laughter when Shane had styled her own hair in the craziest way she could think of, and then had moved on to do the same to Alice. That had been one of the last times the three of them had really laughed together before Dana had passed away, and thinking about it now brought a lump into Shane’s throat.

I really like alice´s conversation with shane. Good job!
whew, I guess I should cancel that all points bulletin I had out for you then? Welcome back! and argh at the stubborness you’ve built into Lace (and yay at the same time!). Looking forward to your resolution (feel free to take another 50 posts to do it…or are you already thinking of a sequel…nothing like insistent fanfic fans) and am sure it will be a “happily ever after”?
LOL @ I.M.A. Badfriend. :D Good to see Shane’s thoughts on Alice/Lara. I’m glad she realized that Alice feelings for Lara were deeper than she thought. Only Alice and Lara also need to know their true feeling for each other…with some help of Shane.
Absolutely fantastic story! Loving it completely. Can’t wait for the next update!:-D
I need another chapter now. Not in a week, not in a day.. but this very second. You’re killing me!

What do you mean, you’re nearing the end? But… (little voice) I only just discovered this story! Anyway, do what you will. I love the way you captured what was behind the silence and stubbornness of Lara and Alice in their sort-of confrontation. Please post soon.
Oh. My. God. I just happened to stumble across this story tonight, so I read all of it. You have to continue this soon! I like Alice and Lara together, but this story makes me love them. I really hope that Yoda has some words for Lara that will make her go running to Alice. They need each other! Great job, and please update ASAP!! :-)
