Not Just an Addiction – Chapter 9

“Alright, you big sap,” Shane replied teasingly.  They walked back inside Wax with their arms wrapped companionably around each other’s shoulders, exchanging joking insults and laughter.

    The following day.

“Oh, for fuck’s sake!” Lara shouted in frustration, as she sat on top of her overly-stuffed suitcase and tried to zip it up for the fifth time.  As she finally managed to close the case, she heaved a sigh of relief.

Getting up, she looked around her half-empty apartment.  Even though she didn’t leave for Paris for another two days, she had decided to begin the packing process early in an attempt to wrap her mind around the fact that she was actually leaving.  She was finding it almost unbearably difficult to leave everything that was familiar to her yet again.  Her heart belonged in Los Angeles, and not just because her friends and family were here.  Alice had managed to take possession of a bigger portion of Lara’s heart than she cared to admit, and the fact that she would be leaving that part of herself behind when she boarded her plane on Sunday was eating away at her.

But, after her brief but devastating conversation with Alice four nights ago, Lara knew that she had to let go of the hope she had built up around what could have happened between them.  Alice didn’t want to be with her, and without Alice in her life, there really wasn’t much point in living in this city.

Lara knew that no matter where she went, she would feel this loneliness following her, but at least in Paris she would know that there was no chance of running into Alice, of seeing her living her life, having fun with other people, maybe even moving on with someone else… Lara shuddered at the final thought.  She couldn’t stay here to watch all of that happen in front of her eyes.  It would be too horrible.

As Lara looked around her apartment, she felt yet another wave of sadness running through her as she realised that her home had never felt lonelier or more empty than it did right now.

A sudden knock at her door acted as a welcome interruption into Lara’s gloomy thoughts.  Hopping over suitcases and random bits of clothing and books that still littered the floor, Lara finally made her way to the door.  As she opened it widely, her mouth dropped open in shock when she realised who was standing on the threshold.

Leaning against the doorframe, Shane looked over the top of her sunglasses at the redhead.  “Hi, Lara,” she said, shooting her a wide, friendly grin.  “I think we should talk.”

    1. whew, I guess I should cancel that all points bulletin I had out for you then? Welcome back! and argh at the stubborness you’ve built into Lace (and yay at the same time!). Looking forward to your resolution (feel free to take another 50 posts to do it…or are you already thinking of a sequel…nothing like insistent fanfic fans) and am sure it will be a “happily ever after”?

    2. LOL @ I.M.A. Badfriend. :D Good to see Shane’s thoughts on Alice/Lara. I’m glad she realized that Alice feelings for Lara were deeper than she thought. Only Alice and Lara also need to know their true feeling for each other…with some help of Shane.

    3. cool can’t wait to see what happens next with alice and lara but I hope that shane can help them as it was partly her fault that they broke up please post soon I love it

    4. What do you mean, you’re nearing the end? But… (little voice) I only just discovered this story! Anyway, do what you will. I love the way you captured what was behind the silence and stubbornness of Lara and Alice in their sort-of confrontation. Please post soon.

    5. Oh. My. God. I just happened to stumble across this story tonight, so I read all of it. You have to continue this soon! I like Alice and Lara together, but this story makes me love them. I really hope that Yoda has some words for Lara that will make her go running to Alice. They need each other! Great job, and please update ASAP!! :-)
