Bette

Bette walked back to her room when her phone went. She answered it and much to her surprise it was Bertha.

“Hey B, what’s up?”

“Pretty Face, I’ll drop the ball, I miss you. You okay? The boss said that you wouldn’t be around for an indefinite period of time. He didn’t give no further details, which is good because not everyone should be in your business. But woman, what is going on?”

“B, a lot. We talked but I haven’t told you all of my story. But I found my sister again, well maybe I should say, she found me. And in doing so, I heard that my father was dying. So the day that my sister’s husband came and found me, he told me that and we flew to New York. My father’s there in a clinic.”

“Wow that is a lot. How is your father?”

“Well somehow the fact that me and my sister are here, gave him strenght. And he’s willing to undergo the much needed surgery. Kit is having a conversation with the medical staff as we speak. Kit is my sister. And before you ask, yes, she is Kit Porter, the singer.”

“What! You mean the legendary Kit Porter? Damn, Pretty Face, you could have told me that.”

“Would that have changed our introduction?”

Bertha thought back at how they met and how rude she was.

“To be honest, I think it would’ve made matters worse. But wow, your sister’s show is one of the things on my bucket list.”

“Well consider it done. I’ll take you to one of her shows.”

Berta hand Bette talked for awhile.  Bette gave Bertha the short version of her life. Bertha listened and in the end she wished her all the luck in the world. Bette couldn’t tell when she would be back which Bertha understood. She would tell their boss that Bette would call him in person to talk about it.

They ended the conversation but before hanging up, Berta made Bette promise her that if she needed help or a listening ear, she was there.

After talking to Bertha, Bette called Shane and filled her in on the latest news. Since Shane wasn’t a talker, that conversation didn’t last that long.

Bette then noticed that Tina still didn’t return from her father. She left the room in search for Tina. She found her outside sitting on a bench.

“Hey sweetie, what’s up?”

Tina looked up and saw Bette looking at her with a little concern in her eyes.

“Nothing to worry about. I just needed some time to reflect.”

“You want to share?”

“Not yet. I’m still in the process of marinade everything what happened the last two weeks.”

“I see.”

“I need to make some phonecalls but I need to know how long we’re going to stay here.”

“Well then we need to find my sister. I’m also curious to know what the medical staff said about my father. Let’s go inside.”
