Sonny looked at his wife with pride in his eyes. Bette looked down. This was new for her.

“Can I see him? And Sonny, where’s Tina?”

“Marina, showed her your room and I just went by, she’s asleep. You want to go to her?”

“No, I want to see my father first and then I’ll go to her.”

“Okey, follow me.” Kit said.

Both Sonny and Bette followed Kit to the part of the clinic where their father stayed. They entered the quarters when Marina came out of their father’s room. Looking a bit concerned.

Kit sensed that something wasn’t right.

“Marina, what’s wrong?”

“You’re father is restless, he keeps asking if Bette arrived. He wants to see her.”

“That stubborn old man, I told him to go to sleep. The day was emotional as it was. And I promised him that when he’d wake up, Bette would be there. Well we don’t have a choice do we?”

“No, I don’t think so. Maybe Bette should go and see her father.”

Marina told Kit that they could go inside that their father was awake. So Kit and Bette started to walk towards the door. Sonny didn’t move.

“Babe, aren’t you coming?”

“No, you girls go have your quality time with your father.”

Now it was Bette’s turn to say: “he’s your father too, Sonny.”

Kit looked at her sister, yes Maxine raised her well. Sonny took Bette’s hand and followed the women into the room.

When Melvin heard the door opened he turned his head and saw Kit.

“Where’s my girl, Kit?”

“She’s right here with the tall gentleman.” Kit said smiling to her father.

Melvin eyes lighted up when he saw Bette and Sonny. He beckoned them to come closer. Bette walked up to the bed. It has been years that she saw her father. He was an old man now but still there was something that hasn’t changed. Some of the Porter beauty was still there. Sonny saw his father-in-law for the first time. He’d seen pictures of him and he knew were the girls had the beauty from. Because although they had gorgeous mothers, Melvin himself was an attractive man eventhough he was ill and the illness took it’s toll.
