The silence in the room after the message was deafening. At the word ‘baby’, Bette cringed; at ‘I love you’ she growled. If she weren’t Bette Porter, she would have spit.
Everyone has a past, Bette. Do not be angry with Tina. It’s clear from the message she wasn’t even talking to this bozo.
The bathroom door opened. “Whew, okay, just have to blow dry my hair, throw my clothes on and I’m out of here. Hey, did the phone ring?”
“Yep.”
“Did you get it? Was it Steve?” Tina asked.
“No and No. I didn’t pick it up. It wasn’t Steve.”
“Baby, you could have answered the phone. Well, who was it?”
“Some man from your past.”
“What?” Tina, buttoning her blouse as she walked, went to the answering machine and pressed the button. The message ended.
“Damn him. Yeah, I’ll call you…when pigs sprout wings…damn him…damn…damn…freaking loser…” Tina erased the message and grumbled and mumbled her so obvious distaste for the caller. “Leave me the fuck alone…I can’t believe my mother…”
Of course, Tina’s reaction plugged any potential holes in the dam behind Bette’s eyes. It also assuaged the small fear that resided in her mind about Tina deep down wanting to return to men for the easy acceptance of that relationship by society.
Tina was still grumbling as she finished getting dressed when it dawned on her what Bette’s reaction to hearing the message might be.

For Tina this life she was embarking on with Bette was a new world of firsts and transitions. It was the first time she had been with a woman sexually. That in turn led to the first time she experienced orgasm without restriction – it was not anything to be worked at – it seemed from the first kiss, she somehow knew that mind-blowing sex was about to become a staple in her life…a very welcome first indeed.
In retrospect, Tina realized that during her ‘previous life’ the kind of intimacy she was sharing with Bette now was then a whisper of a dream, something akin to chasing an elusive butterfly – you know its beauty is out there, but you grow to accept the fact that its beauty is not to be captured easily – and perhaps never. Then one day, you look down and that beautiful butterfly is perched upon your finger. It becomes our choice then…either enjoy its wonder for a few brief moments and then kill it by capturing it; or be still, take in the magnificence of nature, let it wash over you, let all its glorious colors become a part of you; accept the wonderment that it even took the time to visit you in the first place. After all, the elusive beauty made its own choice to enter your time and space.
The elusive butterfly metaphorically perched upon Tina’s finger the day she entered Bette’s shop. Little did she know that as she stepped across the threshold of that shop, she would be stepping into her world of ‘firsts.’ From the first amazing kiss to the first time love in its deepest form came barreling down on her. It seemingly came out of nowhere. And Fate would not let her move out of the way. It slammed into her transforming her into the Kennard Express which, in turn, took Bette on her first non-stop emotional thrill ride of her life.
From first kiss to her first proposal of marriage to someone, it had been nothing short of remarkable. No coincidences in life; you’re given the gift of taking the chance, taking the road less traveled, the one without the signs. Or playing it safe and turning around, leaving the risks for someone else to gamble on.
Thank you, thank you, Tina thought, for letting me take the chance. I cannot imagine my world without this woman.
Funny how two people some distance apart could be having somewhat parallel thoughts. At the very same moment somewhere in a smoky, low-lit bar the man with the penetrating eyes was sipping his vodka and orange juice and wondered for a brief moment why he was in this place. But then his ponderings and imaginings on how to extract Bette Porter from Tina Kennard’s world took over. The person sitting across from him just might be the one to help make his imaginings come to life. If that were so, it would make sitting in this crappy bar so early in the day worthwhile.

i am agree with the others maybe there are people that didn’t have anything better to do than it! but you story since the beginning is wonderful i like it so much and i missed a lot when you stoped for a while because i enjoy so much reading it. to me this is more than 5 starts!
Don’t worry about the ratings issuse. Really there is no issue, I can not for the life of me imagine anyone, and I mean anyone rating this story less than a 10. If so, then they’re ……. guess I’d better leave that alone. Wonderful story update Rene and keep doing what you are doing, it’s all great. You do have the gift of writing and thank you so much for sharing it with us. You really should be published. I don’t know what you do for a living but you should be among the published and prolific writers of our time. I mean this sincerely. Thank you.

Acreextl, More mystery and intrigue as this tale continue. Who is this new character and what hold or place in Tina’s past does he hold. I loved the way that Bette and Tina were able to share their true emotions about one another and their path together with each other. The speed and depth of their relationship both surprises and strengthens their resolve to share everything. More please soon as am on edge of my seat waiting to have this conundrum revealed. I was just talking about Porter’s Mocha Delight yesterday, and here we get a chapter today. Don’t worry about the ratings. It’s probably a bunch of assclowns with nothing better to do than give low ratings on stories.

Jealousie has a lot to do with the rating. They just wish they could write a tenth as good as you. Every once in a while they crawl out of their holes and do dirty things to hurt good people. Now we need to worry about Bette some more. Lets hope Bette is wise enough to Keep looking for the bad in people. thanks
If you go back and look at a lot of older stories, you will see that the usually high rated stories have fallen in stars. Irritating? Yes! Accurate? No! Hope to get another chapter from you soon. Thanks for writing!
