Love and Basketball Chapter 69
“Tina, we are all just praying that the surgery is a success. “If everything goes well she will be good to go for the post season. Coach says this type of injury usually has a 4-6 week recovery.”
“They better not tell Bette that because she will try to do it in 3 because she is so damned competitive.” Tina said making Brandy chuckle.
“You know your woman well I see. She will be ok Tina. Believe me she will call as soon as she wakes up.”
“They put her to sleep?”

“Yeah.”
“Ok Brandy, thanks for calling. I’ll wait up for Bette to call when she can.”
Tina disconnects the call and begins to say a prayer for her baby to make it safely out of surgery. Bette actually told her that if she ever had to go under the knife the scariest part would be being put to sleep. She didn’t like the idea of loosing control. Tina joked at the time that only Bette would think that falling asleep would be more scary than losing a limb. It’s not so funny now.
“Please God, let my Bette be ok. She loves playing. Please don’t take basketball away from her. Please just see her through this, please.” Tina is cradling her phone willing it to ring when she hears the door opening to the suite. Sabrina tip toes into the room trying not to wake her roommate.
“I’m awake Sabrina.” Tina says as she reaches over to turn on her overhead lamp.
Sabrina could see tears on Tina’s face.
“Tina, what’s wrong. What happened?”
“Bette, sprained her ankle and is in surgery now. I just got off the phone with one of her team mates.”
“Oh shit Tina, I’m so sorry.” Sabrina came over to Tina’s bed and hugged her friend.
“She’s going to be ok. Bette’s a fighter from what you told me about her.”
“Yes she is. Thanks Sabrina. Listen about earlier…” Just when Tina was about to apologize to her for their fight her phone rang.
“Bette is it you?” Tina answered anxiously.
“Yes baby it’s me.”
“Oh my goodness Bette, I’m so glad to hear your voice. How do you feel baby? Do you want me to come see you. I just have a test later at 9a.m. but after that I can get on the road to come to you if you need me B.”
“Baby calm down. I love that you want to drop everything for me but really I’m ok. The surgery went very well and they say I just need to rest for the next few days then I’ll be released. The doctors said I should be good to go in 4-6 weeks depending on how hard I work in physical therapy. I bet I can do it 3 though.”
Tina just laughs.
“What’s so funny T?”
“Just you babe. Just you.” Tina exhaled feeling the weight of the world lifted of her shoulders. Her baby is going to be fine.
