    Love and Basketball Chapter 69

“Don’t you dare rationalize your actions Sabrina.”

“You know what Tina, I’m going to go to the gym for a quick workout before I say something I regret.  See you later.” Sabrina slams the door to their dorm room and proceeds to go blow off some steam.

Tina can’t believe Sabrina would just cheat on Matt at some party.  She immediately picked up her phone.  She needed to talk to her baby.  Bette’s phone went to voice mail and Tina just left a quick message telling her to call when she could.

    11:30 pm

Tina is awakened from her slumber by her ringing phone.  It’s Bette ringtone so she answers right away.

“Hey stranger, where have you been?”

“Umm Tina?” Tina does not recognize the voice and immediately sits up.

“Who is this? More importantly where is Bette?”  Tina said trying no to raise her voice but she looked over toward Sabrina’s side of the room and she wasn’t there.

“Tina my name is Brandy and I’m one of Bette’s teammates. Bette wanted me to call you and her parents because she was hurt in tonight’s game.”

“Oh my God! Is she ok?”  Tina is yelling at this point.  Why isn’t Bette able to use the phone?  She is thinking the worst until Brandy tells her the nature of her injury.

“Tina, Bette fell on another players foot and suffered a nasty ankle sprain.  We didn’t know  it was a sprain right away because she tried to hide how much pain she was in. Then she had trouble walking to the team bus unassisted so coach decided not to take any chances and brought her straight to the hospital once we got back to Palo Alto to have it checked.”  Brandy explained.

“So what did the doctors say?”  Tina asked a little calmer.

“Well, it was bad enough that the joint specialist determined surgery to stabilize her ligaments was the best option, given that she is an athlete.  She went in about an hour ago.  She should be able to call you in about an hour.  Don’t worry Tina, she will be ok.”

“Thanks for calling Brandy, but I will feel much better when I can talk to Bette myself.  My poor baby.”  Tina says starting to cry thinking about how scared Bette must be about her playing career.  Her team is the top seed in the play offs and she is now a member of Team USA.  This could be a tremendous setback for her.
