    Author Notes:

    We find out Bette’s secret and a the Family gains another.

    “9:30″ Becca said.

    “Wow we have been here that long.” Jess said

    “Yeah we better get you guys home. Dad said that if you werent home by curfew we would both be grounded.” Jared said.

    “Okay.” Hayden said. They got and followed Becca and Jared to the car. Hayden held Jesss hand all the way to the car and home. When they pulled up at Jesss, Hayden walked Jess to the door.

    “I had a really great time today.” Jess said.

    “Me too.” He said.

    “My moms are probably waiting” Jess said.

    “Okay Can I call you tomorrow?” Hayden said.

    “Yeah I would like that.” She said with a smile.

    “Okay then I talk to you tomorrow.” He said. He waited until Jess was inside before he left.

     

    “Did you have fun?” Bette asked from the couch.

    “Oh mom you scared me. Yeah I had fun.” Jess said.

    “I am glad. You know what I was thinking about?” Bette said.

    “What?” Jess asked.

    “Those picnics you and I used to go on in the park.” Bette said.

    “Yeah those were fun.” Jess said.

    “Why dont you and have one tomorrow just the two us.” Bette said. Now Jess knew something was up. With the way Bette had been acting the past couple weeks and now she wanted to go on a picnic.

    “Thats sounds like fun.” Jess said. She decided that it would be best not to grill her mom at the moment.

    “Good. We have ourselves a picnic tomorrow.” Bette said smiling through her nerves.

    “I am exhausted I am going to bed.” Jess said starting towards the stairs.

    “Jess.” Bette said.

    “Yeah Mom.” Jess said coming back into the living room.

    “I love you.” Bette said.

    “I love you too Mom.” Jess said walking towards Bette and kissing her goodnight.

    The Next Afternoon

    Jess and Bette sat on the grass under their favorite tree. Jess had fallen out of it on several occasions.

    “So Mom what is the real reason you wanted to come here?” Jess asked they finished eating.

    “I am I that transparent?” Bette said trying to relax.

    “Well no knows you better than me. You have been tense for weeks and then last night you seemed upset.” Jess said.

    1. Okay so I was wrong. I figured Bette’s secret was that she got suspended for some type of protest. Hopefully Shannon won’t have a really rough transition.

    6. This chapter was very touching. I hope that Shannon will one day accept her family. Both Jess and Shannon already know each other so hopefully they can become true sisters.

    9. Great update, love the story. Looks as though there will be adjustments for everyone. Losing her mother will be very hard for Shannon and everyone will feel the tension. I only hope she lets them help her through the transition and the death of her mother. There is a whole lot of love in that house and hopefully Shannon will let it surround her. She is young and change can be difficult for teenagers. Thanks for the post. Post again soon please.
