Just The Girl – Chapter Five (a HYD-inspired fic)
Bette sighed as she grabbed her fork and started stabbing at her lamb chops distractedly. Somehow, looking at her dinner made her think of the blonde more. She surmised that it was because the sight of food made her remember what the blonde looked like all covered with it during lunch. Unbeknownst to the rest of the students, Bette actually witnessed the whole food throwing event that happened at the cafeteria. She was watching the whole scene unfold behind the cover of a huge pillar on the second floor balcony of the cafeteria with a nice view of the main dining hall. She didn’t even order the students to throw food on the blonde, so it came as quite a surprise for her when she walked in on it. She remembered the blonde’s face as the students pelted her with their lunch. She was so resilient, holding her head up high as she kept her dignity intact even when she was assaulted with all kinds of food.
In some little way, she admired the blonde.. but as soon as she acknowledged positive feelings forming for Christina Kennard, Bette Porter quickly squashed them dead.. or so she thought. Her hand went down to her stomach, right to the place where the blonde’s knee connected a few hours ago. It still throbbed a little, but the pain was bearable. Unfortunately for her, the same thing cannot be said for her head as she felt a migraine starting to develop. Looks like a certain Christina Kennard was too much for her brain to handle.
Bette sighed as she pushed herself away from the table. She grabbed the napkin resting on her lap and slammed it on the table as she stood up from her chair. She left the room in a huff as her mind continued to torment her with unwelcome thoughts. Except for the stab marks on the meat, her dinner was left completely untouched.

The next day, Tina was back in full battle mode. Once again, she wore her father’s leather hunting vest under her uniform for protection. It worked well against the brutes she came across during recess yesterday so she saw no harm in wearing it again. This time though, she brought extra clothes with her.. jogging pants, a simple white shirt and her old sneakers. She would have brought a spare uniform.. if she actually had one. She owned only two sets of uniforms.. she was wearing one now and the other one was still in the laundry room, filled with all kinds of stains that she was finding extremely hard to remove. She was lucky enough to have her PE class yesterday, at least she had her gym uniform to change into and go home with. She opened her locker and threw her rucksack filled with her change of clothes inside. If all goes well today she wouldn’t need those clothes at all, she sighed as she slammed her locker shut. She looked down at her feet and smiled as she saw her new shoes. Now she wouldn’t have to worry about her shoes breaking down while in the middle of a chase. She sighed as she thought of her father. No matter how much he would try to deny it, she knew that buying these shoes entailed a lot of sacrifices from him. Sacrifice. Something her dad has been doing quite a lot since they moved to Los Angeles. And it was all for her — it was all for the good of his little girl. Tina balled her fists as she took a deep breath. "I won’t let everything come to naught, Daddy." She whispered as she grabbed her leather case and headed over to her classroom. She came in late again on purpose to avoid the morning crowd around the halls. But unlike yesterday, she decided to attend homeroom today – well, what’s left of it as she was already twenty minutes late.

Bette needs a taste of her own medicine and I think she has met her match in Tina Kennard.
