Just The Girl – Chapter Five (a HYD-inspired fic)
"Oh by the way," Ken suddenly spoke as he and Tina was clearing the table. "I got you something." He smiled as Tina looked at him in confusion.
"What is it Daddy?" Tina asked as she watched her father disappear into his room only to appear a few moments later with a box hidden behind his back.
Ken smiled brightly as he walked towards his daughter. "Surprise honey!" He exclaimed as he presented his gift to his daughter.
Tina looked at the present in her dad’s hands in surprise. "Oh Daddy, you shouldn’t have! Its not even my birthday or anything."
Her dad waved his hand as he dismissed her statement. "I don’t need a reason to give my daughter a present." He handed the box to Tina. "Well c’mon now.. open it!" He said excitedly.
Tina tugged the ribbon holding the black box together and stood in awe as she flipped it open and saw its contents. "Wow.." She managed to say as she ran her fingers through the beautiful black leather shoes inside.
Ken smiled from ear to ear as he watched Tina’s facial expressions, pleased at the reaction his little gift got. "New school shoes honey." He laughed a little as Tina launched herself into him and enveloped him in a one arm hug.
"Thank you so much Daddy!" Tina smiled up to her father. She had been using her old pair for almost two and a half years now. She had to super glue the soles a lot of times already due to over usage.
"Talk about good timing too." He said as he nodded his head towards Tina’s ratty old pair resting on top of the shoe rack by the door. "That pair looks even worse than before.. if that’s even possible." He scratched the back of his head.
Tina shook her head in amusement as she looked at the sad state her old pair was in. The shoes suffered a huge deal after all the running she did today in school. "Well, time for it to retire, I guess." Tina smiled.
"Absolutely." Ken patted his daughter on the back. "Well what are you waiting for young lady? See if it fits." He said as he playfully ruffled Tina’s hair
