Just The Girl 2.0 – Chapter Twenty Four, Part One (based loosely on HYD: Returns)

“Yoda.” Shane snorted, her eyelids lolling down. “Give me a few more shots of this and I’m gonna be talkin’ like Chewbacca. Just wait and see.”

And she did, two glasses after.

    ——–

    “Fuck.”

Back at present time, Sam chuckled as she watched a beet red Shane pull up the collar of shirt and cover half of her embarrassed face. “Do you remember now?”

“Yes, and I’d like to forget it again thank you very much.”

“C’mon.. it wasn’t that bad.. you should just try and see the humor in it..”

“I’m not at the stage where I could laugh at it yet.” Shane made a face. She threw a worrisome glance at Sam. “I didn’t cry, did I?”

    “Nope.”

The short haired girl exhaled. “Good, I don’t know the extent of how much I embarrassed myself that night, but bawling my eyes out like baby would have been the thing that would make me swear off scotch for life.”

Sam laughed but quickly turned serious again. Both girls straightened and stopped their conversation at the sight of Alice and Bette heading their way.

“You okay?” Shane mouthed at the blonde.

“Yeah.” Alice gave a non-committal shrug, her eyes still a little puffy. She and Dana had ironed things out, they were okay.. for now.

“B?” Sam gazed up at Bette’s face. Her heart went out to her bestfriend. She looked so defeated.

“Jet’s ready. We have to go.”

“Okay..” Sam gave a nod and pushed herself up to her feet. She grabbed her things and made her way to Bette’s side. She draped an arm around her bestfriend’s shoulder and gave the dejected girl a consoling squeeze.

“No calls?” Bette asked in a low whisper.

“Sorry B,” Sam murmured, feeling extra bad that she had to dash Bette’s hopes.

“It’s fine, don’t worry about it.” F4′s leader replied with a forced smile, her voice sounding so hollow. With a deep breath, she quickly freed herself from Sam’s hold and lead the way out of the lounge. Her eyes were beginning to brim with tears and she didn’t want anyone to see her cry. It was hard, but even with shaking hands she was able to put on her shades and hide her misery from the world. Her enormous pride was the only reason she managed to hold her chin up and walk on her own two feet.

But for a fleeting moment, just as she passed by the doors of the VIP lounge, she almost gave herself away. A sudden wave of sadness washed over her then. All hour long she’d been looking at this very door, wishing that it’d open up and reveal her love in all her glory. Foolishly, she allowed her imagination to run free and conjure up whimsical images in her head; of them hugging, kissing and leaving this place to ride the plane hand-in-hand. So now she cursed her own mind for making her feel like such a fool. Cause after all that dreaming and hoping, here she was.. walking out of this door on her own. And there was no one there to hold her hand. No girlfriend.

    No Tina.

    —–

    “Miss Tina? Excuse me Miss?”

Tina shook herself free from her thoughts and turned to face the man who was looking at her through the rearview mirror. She hadn’t even realized that the limo wasn’t moving, they hadn’t left the set.

“Where to Miss Tina?” Jonathan, her assigned driver from the estate, asked politely.

Tina swallowed hard and looked down at her lap. Indecision was waging a war inside of her. But she knew she had to make up her mind. Where to now? She had to make a choice. She sighed and raised her head. She just hoped that this was the right one. “Jon, take me to..”
