“Down here..” A voice grunted from behind a tabletop.

Sam peered over the island table and saw her bestfriend on all fours, head buried deep inside one of the cabinets. Her eyes grew big when she saw Bette pulling out mixing bowls and trays and placing them on top of the counter. Uh-oh..! “Uh.. what are you doing?”

“What the hell does it look like?” Bette answered, pointing out the obvious when she proceeded to take out various ingredients from the pantry.

“Oh God no! No no no..” Sam shook her head to the side, her voice showcasing the panic she felt for what the brunette was about to do. “You can’t be serious right? Please tell me you’re just joking and you’re really planning to give Tina something from a store..”

“From a store? Please, how pathetic is that? Give me some credit Samantha. I’m gonna give my girlfriend homemade brownies.” She said proudly, a haughty air in her tone.

“It’s not pathetic, its safer.” Sam countered. “Do you want your girlfriend to get sick or God forbid, die?” She knocked on wood.

“No, of course not! And she won’t, by the way. You’re exaggerating again.” Bette pointed a spatula in front of Sam’s face and waved it around the girl’s nose like a sword. Throwing it alongside the other baking materials, she crossed the short distance towards the fridge and took out some eggs.

“How do you know?” Sam sighed, watching helplessly as Bette gathered all that she needed for her ambitious gift.

“Kennard has an iron stomach, you know that.” Bette shrugged, her brows furrowed in concentration as she took out a cookbook and read the instructions for baking brownies. Some of the things seemed simple enough, though there were some she couldn’t understand. Too bad Sonja was on her day off. And dang, where was Shane when you needed her? Appearances aside, their player friend was the best cook in F4 – it was something she enjoyed doing, though she would often hide it from others for fear of being ridiculed. Absentmindedly scratching the side of her neck with a whisk, Bette bit back a frustrated sigh. “How the heck do you toast walnuts? Is there a special toaster for it?”
