If You Never Say Anything to Me ch. 3

“How can I share my innermost thoughts with her and want to date her? She’ll think I’m a freak.”

“Bette, I know this whole relationship thing is a foreign concept to you but you share your innermost thoughts with the person you’re dating. The hot doc has rules and laws that won’t allow her to date you but you can share all the things you need to now and eventually you won’t be her patient any longer. Then if you get the chance to date her, all the crappy stuff is already out there and there are no surprises for her.”

“You think I should talk when I go in next week?”

“I’ve been telling you for months to talk. Hell, you got shot Bette. I know you think you’re superhuman but you’re not. You’ve changed. You don’t go out. You don’t sleep with women. You’re obsessing over your doc. You need to talk about all that is going on and see if the shooting is bothering you more than you want to admit or if you’re just growing up.”

“Maybe I’ll talk to her. I am still having trouble sleeping and drinking too much.”

“Good enough reason to talk to her. You also miss work. They’re not going to take you back if you act all Monkish on them.”

We had to laugh at that. We would get together on Sundays and watch the episodes of Monk that we had recorded. Since the shooting when I did something out of the ordinary for me she would warn me that I was beginning to get too Monkish for her. I wasn’t obsessive or as neurotic as Monk was but I could see how his tragedy changed him, even if he was a fictional character, and how mine was slowly changing me.

“Ok. I’ll talk and even better yet, I’ll leave the house today too. How about we go to The Planet, see Kit and grab some dinner?”

“Oh my goodness…you’re leaving the house. Come on. I’ll drive.”

“Like hell you will. I told you years ago I wouldn’t ride in a car with you driving unless I was dead or suicidal. Today, I’m neither. Let me grab my bag and we can go.”

I gathered my things, locked up and we headed out. For the first time in almost 5 months, I was venturing out for some place other than therapy or a doctor’s visit. It actually excited me to be going and even if it was Kit’s coffee house, it was a step in the right direction and I was doing it with Alice, my supportive best friend, at my side.

    1. I really like this story, Bette needs to talk or she never will get back to work Nor will she get rid of her Dr. after the De. releases her she can ask her for a date. thanks

    2. Therapy just stinks in the worst way! tickled that you kept alice as her lovable self, lol… but hopefully bette will start to open up with the doc… :)PPS

    3. Maybe Bette will run into Tina at the planet…then she’ll know and open up in therapy. Alice is right if she gets better there won’t be the whole doc/patient thing to deal with and here won’t be any secrets from the past either! Can’t wait for more! PPS:)

    4. O.K. NAG, I’m definitely hooked on this story too. I’m thinking that Tina is going to have to suggest another therapist for Bette, so that they can get together without Tina breaking her code of ethics. This is such a good story!

    5. reading and compearing to the folder, can’t wait for the catch up, it’s fun to do it all over again though. Hugs for little G and his for now momma, Thanks so much for your talents. Md

    6. Liking it – except how will tina get around the fact that she shouldn’t date or sleep with a patient or ex-patient for years after the therapy??

    7. You’re posting so fast with everything I can’t keep up! Goose! Prolific Goose! Heheh…I just read all three chapters in a row…and I’m lovin’ it! Viva la difference! :)

    8. It is great that Alice and Bette are very close and that Bette can open up to her. When I read that Bette wanted to go the planet, I went back to chapter 2 to see what coffee shop that Shane and Tina went to. Could it be the same coffee shop? My great nephew is visiting my parents and I was able to play and hold him this afternoon. I actually got him settled enough to go to sleep. But I am lucky, no diaper duty.

    9. These two are so going to run into one another at either The Planet or at a local bar – then the therapy will end and the dating will begin…since Bette really hasn’t shared anything with Tina in the therapy setting, I think ethically Tina could transfer the case and work within the structure of her license. Great Story! Can’t wait for their next meeting.
