If You Never Say Anything to Me ch.14

“I know. I should see if Tina will see me and help me work through Gabby,” she said as she laughed. I wondered how long it would take her to figure it out.

“Help me take the food out to the grill,” I told her hoping to distract her. It did. When she opened the refrigerator, her only focus was grabbing herself a beer. She offered one to me but I told her I was drinking water for now. She handed me a bottle. She opened the drawer and pulled out the aluminum foil and wrapped the potatoes and corn in it. She threw them on a plate and we started outside. The doorbell rang and she went to get it saying it was probably Shane. I walked outside and started the grill. When Alice walked out she was alone.

    “Where’s Shane?”

“She’s on the phone. She’ll be out in a minute. Get this Bette. She’s on the phone with Halle Berry. Halle freaking Berry is calling her to come over to do her hair. I wonder if she’ll let me pretend to be her assistant.”

“I doubt it,” Shane said as she came out. “Hi Bette. Sorry about that. I am not usually that rude but Ms. Berry has an engagement and needs her hair done tomorrow. Her regular person has an emergency out of town.”

“Hey Shane, not a problem. Wow Halle Berry. That’s impressive.”

“Yes, I did her hair during one of  her movies. She’s really nice and of course, beautiful.”

“Shane, where’s Tina,” Alice asked totally changing the course of where I wanted the discussion to go.

“I don’t know. I called a couple times and went by but couldn’t catch her and her car isn’t there. She hasn’t returned my calls. I know she needed to finish an article so maybe she’s off working on it.”

“Any chance she off with the ex boyfriend?” Leave it to Alice to shoot my mood to hell. I turned my back and started putting the potatoes on the grill.

“No Tina’s not like that. She was sure when she broke up with him and wouldn’t go back with him. They’ll be friends but Tina isn’t ready for that yet. She sometimes takes off for the beach when she wants to think and then just gets a room so she doesn’t have to drive back. Bette, what can I do to help?”

“Nothing Shane but thanks. There’s beer in the fridge if you want one.” Man this was going to be a long evening if the talk continued to be about Tina.

Shane went in, found the kitchen and got herself a beer. When she came back out, we sat around and talked. Thankfully, we had enough to talk about that we didn’t revisit the Tina subject and just had a nice evening. I could see why Alice liked Shane. She was just a nice person. She had a kick ass sarcastic side that made me laugh over and over again. Her timing and facial expressions were perfect. At about 10, they decided that they were going to go to a bar but I declined when they asked me. They helped me clean up the little mess we had made and wished me a goodnight before they took off. I went in and washed my face and brushed my teeth. I reached in my pocket for my phone to set the alarm and it wasn’t there. I checked on the patio and in the kitchen. I then checked the studio and there it was. I picked it up and saw the flashing light indicating I had a text message. I opened it. It was from Tina. It was from over 2 hours ago.

Bette, I got your message. No apology is needed. We’ll talk on Wednesday.

Any chances I may have had to go to sleep were gone. What would we talk about on Wednesday? I went back outside, took my clothes off and jumped in the pool. By the time I finally pulled myself out, my body and mind were tired enough to hopefully sleep. I left my clothes right there and walked into my room. I toweled off and climbed into bed. The last thought I remembered was Tina had sent me a message and Shane hadn’t been able to reach her all day. I hoped that meant something.

    1. Good to know that baby G will be okay. 3 days old, they break at any age, at 3 days they are just little sleeping, eating and pooping machines. Now for the story, I know the drama is coming just hope I can live thru it. Back to read the story.

    2. glad that bette has kit to talk to. nice to see the gang coming together. gabby is bad news for alice.:)PPS glad to hear little g is doing well and arrived safely…

    3. YOU KNOW I LOVE THIS STORY!!! I LOOOOOOOVE IT! IT JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER AND BETTER! (Better turn the caps lock off or you’ll hear me in FL) YOU ROCK, nagster! Absolutely ROCK! (If only true life was like this…well…it prolly is for some…but not for me…boo hoo) Gawd! Just love love love love love this story! :) And I’m so glad G is in capable and caring hands! He’s lucky to have had you! Bless him!

    4. aaawwwwwwwwwwwwww, this is so intriguing…i want more…NOW!!!!! SORRY Baby G left us. i was so fond of the littlee…another one 3 days old? wow, they leave the nest young these days!!! whoa.

    5. Loved, loved, loved it. Poor Bette, she needs to slow down as Kit said she needs to pace herself. Tina will come around in due time, it’s just so frustrating to wait. BTW, did anyone see JB & LH on the Glaad Awards tonight on BRAVO, they were presenters, and did a little banter on THE SHOW. They were lovely, Laurel’s hair looked darker for some reason. PPS

    6. Great chapter – I loved Kit’s advice to Bette much better than anything poor foxy brown’s been given to say since season 1. Thank god for fan fic authors who know how to give characters some depth. You are great.

    7. Wonderful to know that Little G is doing well…hmmm, 3 days old, that is a bit new, but so precious….Loved Kit’s advice, and B’s comment about making a s’wich & wondering what kind of jelly T likes….like pattifloatn, I suspect their friends will figure it out pretty soon & though it doesn’t require her Yoda like sensibilities on this one, I think Shane may be the first to get a clue if she was observant when she went in to grab a beer ;) Poor B’s gentle heart learning, but not knowing who T is interested in..Now I’m trying to figure out what drama you have in store for us, and well I don’t want to imagine the worst, so I’m trying not to think about it…just hoping you post soon & thanks for this one!!!

    8. Is it Wednesday yet? I’m happy to hear that little G had a safe trip. Must have been hard to let him go… Thanks for bringing up the Spawn of Satan, they’ve been out of school a couple of weeks and are already running crazy in the streets. Thank God my ‘lil spawn of Satan is in summer school! Later NAG PPS.

    9. Can’t wait to find out what happens on wednesday.Thank God for Alice, she is the right person to find out information without even knowing she is doing it.looking forward to the next chapter PPS

    10. Just found this story. I’m really enjoying it. You’re a gifted writer. I’m excited to check out your other story too. I have one minor request: can you please add Dana into the group? I miss her presence in fanfiction land :)

    11. NAG, so glad the Aunt called to tell you the G’ster made the flight ok, I know you were a little worried about that. Now that cookout was perfect, just what I’d like. I know you having evil writing thoughts so please don’t let them spill to much in this story, somehow I can see em comming. Thank you, Md

    12. Bette’s dying to know Tina’s favorite flowers and what movies make her cry. Yep, she’s got it bad. I LOL on their Wonder Woman discussion. I think the invisible airplane is Wonder Woman’s coolest/funniest weapon because you can’t see it but it’s there tucked somewhere in a hangar or parked on a runway. Thanks for this update, NAG! :>

    13. This story is just so touching – every chapter just warms the heart. I join the choir in saying “How long until Wednesday?” I am so grateful that Tina texted Bette to let her know she received the message. I hope Bette makes the connection that Tina has been interested in her for several months. So happy to hear that little G made it safe and sound!

    14. NAG, you have an incredible way of telling a story that just pulls the reader in and makes them feel part of it. So much of your story talks about simple interaction with characters, but you make evrything sound so interesting. I’m hooked for life on anything you write, I swear! So, Bette’s learning patience and Tina is struggling with her feelings…this is such a good story.

    15. In the last chapter Tina got some good advice from her mother and a college professor, now Bette got very good advice from her sister Kit. Both are lucky to have people in their lives that they can talk to. How long will it take before Alice puts it together or for that matter Shane?
