Heaven Can Wait – Episode 9: Wicked Game

    Bette: I really hope so.

Bette smiles, still fixated on Angelica.

Tina: Bette….baby, of course we will.

Kit: I just hope you do better than I did.

    Carmen: Hey, Dana…

    Dana: Yeah?

    Carmen: Where’s your friend at?

    Dana: Wha…? Who…oh…you mean Lara?

    Carmen: Yeah, the chef girl.

    Carmen looks over at Kit.

Carmen: Who is one Hell of a cook, by the way.  And I do not impress easy.

    Jenny: It’s true.

Dana: Well, I think she’s dropping by as soon as she gets off from work.

    Alice looks over at Dana.

    Alice: Sh…she is?

Alice looks worried, her eyes now on the can of diet cola that are in her hands.

Dana: You don’t have a problem with that, do you?  She wanted to come by and see the baby.

Tina: Hey, the more the merrier.

Bette leans over and whispers in Tina’s ear.

Bette: I don’t know…I kinda like it when it’s just us, sometimes.

Bette kisses Tina on the lips, then Angelica on the forehead.

Tina: Shhh, careful now.  She’s sleeping.

Carmen: You know that Lara girl’s kinda cute.

    Shane crosses her arms.

    Shane: Oh, really.

Carmen bites her lips as she looks at Shane.

Carmen: Shane…are you jealous?  Because I find that kinda sexy.

Alice: Lara has that effect on people.  She can come along and…bam…she’s got ya.

Alice chugs her diet cola as Dana looks on.  Dana’s good mood is now almost gone completely.

Bette: Well, I know who’s got me now…

Bette runs her thumb across one of Angelica’s tiny hands.

Tina: You wanna hold her some more?

Bette cautiously scoops up Angelica into her arms and walks away with her, careful not to wake her.

Shane: You know, Bette…I don’t think I’ve ever seen you as happy as you are right now, man.

    Tina: Yeah…neither have I.

Tina looks on at Bette and Angelica as she lays down in the hospital bed.

While Tina’s mind drifts back to that time, so does Bette’s, but for Bette it’s a short time later in her head.  Bette finds herself at the Planet, leaning back in her seat with her arms crossed.  Kit walks up to her sister, placing her right hand against Bette’s left shoulder.

Kit: You just gonna sit there or are ya gonna finish your coffee?

    1. I had the same probs as ackemat–fanfic updates and morning coffee leads to leaving later than planned. Dang! So addicting. I also had to re-read to get all the flashbacks. Nicely done! Dana needs to step up and make a move–I still say Lara and Alice should ride off into the sunset together, it’s creepy in an intriguingly good way. Lara + Carmen = weird. Shane + Carmen figuring it out= potentially h.o.t. Keep up the updates, it’s great to see where you are going with this story! PPS!

    2. ok enough of this alice and lara tension stuff… it’s kinda creeping me out. i don’t know what it is about the two of them hooking up but it just… well it’s creepy. : ) great post… do it again soon, please!

    3. Finding updates in the morning is a prize and a curse – all roled up into one. I should be getting ready for work, but I sit here reading fanfic. I’ll have to save the other story that was updated for tonight when I get home. Back to your story, I started out reading too fast, then saw the scene with Lara and Dana, and I was like,”What!” – which made me look at the previous installment. The first time I read it, I totally missed the scene between Jenny and Max, when Max was analyzing everyone’s interactions. That was really cool. Max is like the reader – an outside casual observer. I loved the flashbacks that you used in this chapter. Shane doesn’t have much love for Lara, but she’s also caught up in her own drama and problems. Carmen is an outsider – like Lara, so it makes sense that she is fiercely defending Lara because she knows she really isn’t “family” either. Dana and Alice are still scaring me. It feels like Dana is still torn, and will end up with neither Alice nor Lara. The angst between Alice and Lara is unsettling. For some reason I see them getting together – which will be like a car wreck. I’ll want to turn away, but not be able to. I think I could handle them together better with a living Dana because I still mildly resent her, (as much as I can resent a fictional character – fiction, fiction fiction…), for breaking Alice’s heart in the first place. I’m looking forward to your next update. Gee, now I’m running late!

    4. lol confuzzled, dun u like the word? i luv it!. anyway great update! lol mr.Angus was doin the observation this time around.. lol i like the way u utilize these useless characters. and alice-lara definitely NOT creepy! wud really lik em to be together bcuz i actually find the whole Carman-Lara thing wierd, now dun tell me tht being kind of a wierdo urself ure gonna hook em up! ill kill my sister’s teddy bear n make it come aftr u n haunt u! lol i know iv lost it.. but thanks for the great story! :D cheers!

    5. i just came across your story and I think it is awesome.. your portrayal of the characters is dead on… It makes me glad to read them …just to picture how things could have gone if Dana had not died!! I like how you are weaving some of the parts of the show into this… I do like Alice and Lara together…I like this tension that you are creating… :)
