Heaven Can Wait – Episode 9: Wicked Game
Everyone now focuses on Bette.
Bette: I think it’s great that we’re all here together so we can celebrate this occassion. I know there was a party while I was away, but…since I wasn’t here it doesn’t count.
Bette winks and smiles as the group laughs.
Bette: But Dana, this Championship is without a doubt one of your greatest achievements. But…it’s not your greatest ever.
Dana looks on, intrigued as Lara wraps her arms around Dana from behind.
Bette: Your greatest achievement has been in being able to make us all smile, just by being here. You’re one of the greatest friends anyone could hope for.
Tina: Dana, you’ve always been a Champion among us. Now you get to sport a really nice ride, to boot!
There’s collective laughter once again as Dana almost blushes.
Dana: Well…it is a sweet ride.
Lara nods as Dana laughs.
Kit: Congrats, baby girl.
Angus: You were awesome.
Dana: Thanks, guys.
Helena: Congratulations.
Shane: Dana, you totally rule.
Carmen: You go girl!
More laughter is exchanged in good nature.
Jenny: We’re still waiting for the victory dance.
Moira: Yeah!
Dana: Ahahaha…maybe later, guys.
Dana’s smile appears unerasable as she leans back against her girlfriend. Lara leans her head in.
Lara: We’re all very proud of you.
Dana turns her head back, greeting her girlfriend with a kiss. Alice looks on for a second before closing her eyes and forcing a grin. Helena is quick to notice.
Helena: Alright, um Dana! I think it’s time for D-
Alice: My turn.
Everyone looks over at Alice. The mood cools somewhat as Alice approaches Dana and Lara, her hands clasped together in front of her. Lara’s hands slide back to Dana’s shoulders and she backs away from Dana’s body a little. The last thing she wants to do is rub it in Alice’s face. Alice’s eyes focus on Dana’s.
Alice: You looked great out there. You really did…and ummm….congratulations!
Alice laughs feintly for a second.
Alice: Congratulations…both of you.
Dana: Thank you.
As everyone follows up once again with their congratulations to break the suddenly cool mood, Alice’s eyes shift to Lara who smiles warmly. Conversations begin to emerge among the friends there as Alice looks over at Helena. Helena walks over.

I had the same probs as ackemat–fanfic updates and morning coffee leads to leaving later than planned. Dang! So addicting. I also had to re-read to get all the flashbacks. Nicely done! Dana needs to step up and make a move–I still say Lara and Alice should ride off into the sunset together, it’s creepy in an intriguingly good way. Lara + Carmen = weird. Shane + Carmen figuring it out= potentially h.o.t. Keep up the updates, it’s great to see where you are going with this story! PPS!
ok enough of this alice and lara tension stuff… it’s kinda creeping me out. i don’t know what it is about the two of them hooking up but it just… well it’s creepy. : ) great post… do it again soon, please!
I like the multiple aspects of what happiness is supposed to be for this group. Nice one, post soon.
Finding updates in the morning is a prize and a curse – all roled up into one. I should be getting ready for work, but I sit here reading fanfic. I’ll have to save the other story that was updated for tonight when I get home. Back to your story, I started out reading too fast, then saw the scene with Lara and Dana, and I was like,”What!” – which made me look at the previous installment. The first time I read it, I totally missed the scene between Jenny and Max, when Max was analyzing everyone’s interactions. That was really cool. Max is like the reader – an outside casual observer. I loved the flashbacks that you used in this chapter. Shane doesn’t have much love for Lara, but she’s also caught up in her own drama and problems. Carmen is an outsider – like Lara, so it makes sense that she is fiercely defending Lara because she knows she really isn’t “family” either. Dana and Alice are still scaring me. It feels like Dana is still torn, and will end up with neither Alice nor Lara. The angst between Alice and Lara is unsettling. For some reason I see them getting together – which will be like a car wreck. I’ll want to turn away, but not be able to. I think I could handle them together better with a living Dana because I still mildly resent her, (as much as I can resent a fictional character – fiction, fiction fiction…), for breaking Alice’s heart in the first place. I’m looking forward to your next update. Gee, now I’m running late!
Awsome update, its starting to get good, thanks!PPS

i just came across your story and I think it is awesome.. your portrayal of the characters is dead on… It makes me glad to read them …just to picture how things could have gone if Dana had not died!! I like how you are weaving some of the parts of the show into this… I do like Alice and Lara together…I like this tension that you are creating… :)
