Heaven Can Wait – Episode 9: Wicked Game

What a wicked thing to do
To let me dream of you"

Flying at night can be relaxing, especially on the Peabody Private Jet.  This jet however is bigger than the one Helena used to fly her friends to San Jose to carry more people aboard.  Not much talking is done as the flight takes place at the end of a long day.  As the sky grows darker, the flight mesmerizes those onboard into relaxation and thought.  For those flying tonight, the thought is where the relaxation ends.

Kit holds Angus’s hands as they sit side-by-side.  She knows she has to tell him sometime at the possibility of being pregnant…but not right now.  Her mind wanders back to recent days as she finds herself in the bathroom at the Planet.  She’s just returned from the drug store with a plastic bag full of home pregnancy tests and several bottles of water.  One by one, she goes through each test and each time the result is the same indicating a pregnancy.  This worries her greatly and now she’s unsure how to tell Angus.  She doesn’t feel ready for this.  She doesn’t feel ready for the burden of being a disappointing mother as before.  The feeling gnaws at her.  She closes her eyes as she’s seated on the toilet, burying her head in her right hand. Now what?

Angus drifts back several months to a happier time.  A time before everything began to feel so tense.  A time just before life became full of stress and hospital visits for a newfound friend.  Not long before, friends had gathered together at Wax to celebrate Dana’s tournament victory.  However on this evening, it’s Family Night at Bette’s.  It’s an evening where he begins to feel almost one with the group.  He can still see himself and Kit beginning to gel more.  He can still see Dana and Lara, looking happy as ever together with Alice there as well, ever supportive.  Helena’s there.  Shane, Carmen, Jenny and Moira are all there.  Of course Bette, Tina and little Angelica are all there.  They’re all gathered in the living room together and celebrating.

Bette: Everyone, if I can have your attention.

    1. I had the same probs as ackemat–fanfic updates and morning coffee leads to leaving later than planned. Dang! So addicting. I also had to re-read to get all the flashbacks. Nicely done! Dana needs to step up and make a move–I still say Lara and Alice should ride off into the sunset together, it’s creepy in an intriguingly good way. Lara + Carmen = weird. Shane + Carmen figuring it out= potentially h.o.t. Keep up the updates, it’s great to see where you are going with this story! PPS!

    2. ok enough of this alice and lara tension stuff… it’s kinda creeping me out. i don’t know what it is about the two of them hooking up but it just… well it’s creepy. : ) great post… do it again soon, please!

    3. Finding updates in the morning is a prize and a curse – all roled up into one. I should be getting ready for work, but I sit here reading fanfic. I’ll have to save the other story that was updated for tonight when I get home. Back to your story, I started out reading too fast, then saw the scene with Lara and Dana, and I was like,”What!” – which made me look at the previous installment. The first time I read it, I totally missed the scene between Jenny and Max, when Max was analyzing everyone’s interactions. That was really cool. Max is like the reader – an outside casual observer. I loved the flashbacks that you used in this chapter. Shane doesn’t have much love for Lara, but she’s also caught up in her own drama and problems. Carmen is an outsider – like Lara, so it makes sense that she is fiercely defending Lara because she knows she really isn’t “family” either. Dana and Alice are still scaring me. It feels like Dana is still torn, and will end up with neither Alice nor Lara. The angst between Alice and Lara is unsettling. For some reason I see them getting together – which will be like a car wreck. I’ll want to turn away, but not be able to. I think I could handle them together better with a living Dana because I still mildly resent her, (as much as I can resent a fictional character – fiction, fiction fiction…), for breaking Alice’s heart in the first place. I’m looking forward to your next update. Gee, now I’m running late!

    5. i just came across your story and I think it is awesome.. your portrayal of the characters is dead on… It makes me glad to read them …just to picture how things could have gone if Dana had not died!! I like how you are weaving some of the parts of the show into this… I do like Alice and Lara together…I like this tension that you are creating… :)
