“Leave him alone Porter, he ain’t done nothing to you.”

“He’s under arrest, Tony and I have to bring him in.”

“On what charge?”

“He’ll be charged when he gets to the station.  Just step forward so that I can handcuff you.”

“Where’s your warrant, I want to see your warrant?”

“I don’t need a warrant for this.  Now step forward.  Don’t make me pull this trigger.”

“Fuck you Bette. I got rights.  Show me the warrant or get the fuck out of my property.”

“I’m not kidding Tony.  Either you’d come down here or I’ll have every sheriff in the county here in a couple of minutes and I’m going to ask them to search your entire house for drugs.”  It was a bluff but somehow Bette managed to make them believe what she said.

“Step aside Tony, let’s get this over with.”  Peter said calmly he didn’t seem particularly worried at all.

“Stop just right there and I want you on the ground!”  The sight of Peter’s face made Bette want to pull the trigger.  All those memories hunted her back.  If she didn’t follow the law she would just kill this son of a bitch right then and there.

“Get on your knees now!” 

Peter did as he was told, Bette reached for her handcuffs then she slipped one of the cuffs around his wrists and moved his hands behind his back and took his other hand and slipped on the other cuffs, then she pulled him up.

“Peter Connelly, You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to speak to an attorney, and to have an attorney present during any questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be provided to you at government expense.” She then shoved Peter into her car and drove back to the department.

That night after making love, Bette seemed to be miles away.  She still couldn’t forget what had happened that afternoon.  Could she really trust Terry? Was it true that Peter had ran over her wife?  Was it a revenge for putting him and his gang in jail?

“Bette you seem miles away tonight, are you okay babe?” Tina asked.

“Yeah, I’m fine. I have just been thinking about this afternoon that’s all.”

“What’s going on?”

Looking at Tina face made her realize how much in love she was with her.  Tina made her feel alive again.  She wanted to spend all her life with her.  She wanted to make her happy and she knew it was unfair to Tina if she kept on doing this to her.

“I arrested Peter today at his house.”  She said

“What for?” before she finished her question, she realized the answer.

“Oh babe,” She said holding Bette tight.  “Are you sure you’re okay?”

“I don’t know if what I’m doing is right anymore Tee, I’m so confused.”  Bette held onto her tight as she finally broke down, the tears streaming down as though as she’d never cried before.
