    Family Sunday

“They were both nervous. Tina told us how they got to that point while Bette and AJ played games on the midway.”

“Wait. Wait. Wait. Bette played midway games? I can’t picture that. Huh,” Alice said.

“AJ wanted to play with her.”

    “Okay. That tracks. What else?”

“Oh, they did hold hands briefly at lunch.”

    “Hand holding. Nice.”

    “That’s pretty much it.”

    “That’s it?”

    Alice sounded disappointed.

“Yeah. That’s it. No, they were dancing when we were leaving.”

    “Dancing?” Alice perked up.

“That’s right. It was a salsa,” Adam chimed in and shimmied his shoulders.

“Did you just shimmy,” Lexie smiled.

Adam shimmied again. Kit shimmied too. Everyone laughed. Then they watched AJ, Bette and Tina splash around some more.

    “Hiiiii,” Dana said.

    “You made it!”

Alice jumped up and gave Dana a big hug.

“Yes. The sponsors wouldn’t shut up. But hey, they are forking over a lot of money.”

    “Yeah, they are,” Alice giggled.

“And they are really nice. So…I had to play along.”

“I am so proud of you, Dane.”

“Mmmm…that’s nice to hear. Thanks, Al. What did I miss?”

Alice motioned to the pool. Dana looked over Alice’s shoulder. Dana mouthed, “what the fuck?”

    “I knowwwwww,” Alice shrieked.

They chatted and laughed while AJ, Bette and Tina splashed in the pool for another hour.

    “Look,” AJ said.

He pointed to the sky. The sun was beginning to set. Bette and Tina looked at each other. Then they watched the beautiful sunset change the sky. Bette stole a glimpse of Tina. It looked like Tina had tears in her eyes. AJ hugged Bette’s neck. Bette nudged Tina with her shoulder and mouthed, “you okay?” Tina nodded yes. Then she looked up to the left, down to right, bit her lip and grabbed the back of her neck. Bette frowned and nudged her again.

“Who wants s’mores,” Kit said loudly.

    “Meeeee,” AJ yelled.

AJ flopped out of Bette’s arms and they all got out of the pool. Bette wrapped AJ up like a burrito again. Tina dried off and put her clothes back on. Bette threw on her swimsuit cover.

They enjoyed s’mores by the fire. It was nearly a perfect day.

“We need to get this little guy to bed,” Adam said.

    1. Great chapter!

Bette and AJ and together with Tina, he is so smart and adorable! Very clever from him to let them join him in the pool.

Bette is ready to try to rebuild their relationship and Tina comes with that line, “Things that will most likely break your heart…some more.”. But they have to make a clean start and this is necessary to put everything out and then away to never come back.

I’m sad the end is coming but also looking forward to the next chapter.

      • Thank you so much! I’ll be tackling a GenQ storyline when I’m done with this one. This my first attempt at fanfic and it has been such a privilege writing this story. When it’s all done, I’ll go back and read it from start to finish to see what I could’ve done better.

Bette is ready to rebuild but she’s also nervous. She portrays alpha but we know she’s fragile. So I’m excited to see how Tina navigates her fragility and how Bette hopefully starts to forgive her. But I don’t know. We shall see.

Next chapter is going to be a doozy for sure!

AJ is my absolute favorite. I kinda wish I wrote him as an orphan or something. I love the way Bette and AJ interact.

        • You are a great writer, your writing style is really good, don’t think you have to change anything. I especially love how you write their inner thoughts. The story flows and keeps you wanting more.

I adore AJ, maybe you can add him in your new story. Bette doing something for a orphan house, they meet and Bette and him bond immediately and Bette wants to adopt him, giving him the warm and loving home he deserves. I am adopted and it would be so great to read something like that. But whatever you’re new story will be about, i will certainly read it!
