“Gabe,” whispered Shane as they all basked in the bright light of the porch light.  Astonished that her father would have the audacity to show up at her door step after having left his wife, and stolen money from her friend, Shane was rendered speechless.

“Hi Shane,” said Gabe with a bright smile that was virtually identical to Shane’s.  Sam looked left at Shane, who was pale as a ghost on Halloween.  Knowing the whole history of the two, Sam decided to play offense instead of defense.

Sam stepped up to Gabe, “I’m Sam,” she said shaking his hand.  She then knelt down to be nose to nose with the young man, “…and you must be Shay?”

He nodded, seemingly rather shy, handsome and with bright blue eyes.  Sam stood up again, giving Shane a look of reproach.  Shane hadn’t moved, unable to form the words of anger that were brimming at the tip of her lips.  Seeing that Shane couldn’t articulate anything, Sam stepped in, “Shay, are you hungry?  How about we go inside and make us some grub?”

Shay looked up at his father, who nodded, “Go ahead, son.”

Sam extended her hand, and Shay too it with a very small bashful smile on his lips.  Sam brushed by Shane, kissing her lightly, Shane’s eyes never leaving her father for a moment.  Sam felt the cool mood that had shifted in Shane.

Waiting until Sam was inside and Shay was out of earshot, “You mother fucking son of a fucking bitch!  What are you doing here?”

“Why are you yelling at me?” asked Gabe in a voice that was tainted with hurt.  “I came to see my daughter.”

“Why?  Because you stole 10 grand from one of my best friends, you left your wife and now you are dragging Shay around in the middle of the night?”

“Carla is dead,” he said devoid of emotions.

Shane rubbed her hair, a shiver rushing through her, “I’m sorry.”

“I lost my job because when I went back, she was sick, throwing up blood, it was stomach cancer….,” he began to explain.

    1. I continue to be amazed at your ability to seamlessly interweave so many storylines and keep them all so engaging. Knowing from your other stories that you do not hesitate to bump off main characters, I envisioned heartbreak ahead when you paired Bette with Jo. I decided I had nothing to worry about since its hard to kill a vampire. Then you go and make Jo human. sigh. Every time I open a new chapter, I am worried about what’s gonna happen. Loved this chapter with all of the characters appearing. Oh, and Tina deserves a love interest.

    2. hmm. i like this chapter, it’s amazing how you have so many characters in this story though, and everyone likes them. Awesome, i love Riley and Spencer, hint hint

    3. I *knew* Gabe would want something. Scumbag. Welp, Shane’s going to have to do some adjusting, and fast. The rest of the chapter was fantastic, I loved the games, and Alice and her strategy with the underwear, ha! Amy’s going to have to get over Jo, cos it looks like she’s stickin, no matter what Amy pulls. Quin and Tina, I think you gave us a bit more than a glimmer there… Great chapter, Janet, thanks.

    4. Trying to bring the whole group together and in harmony was a feat that you did do very well. Quin and Tina I can see that better than she and Amy. Alice is still the class clown. I loved the longer chapter. How can anyone walk off and leave a child??? Okay,I,m going in the Hospital April 25 for a complete shoulder replacement. Don’t mop the F**king floor bare foot. this has been going on since 8 of Aug 06 . Can’t do much with one arm in a sling and your right arm at that. I still do all the work but I do get tired. So if I pass my Phyical.it a go. So I’ll be able to read but the Dr said in about a year I would be 95% as good as new. Hell at my age just getting out of bed is good. Love this Love Sam and Shane. You take care and write a lot. get me a book out. I can alway read. Take care and rest. thanks bvh

    5. Don’t know why I con’t to be amazed by the amt. of characters you have interacting w/ one another in a post like this, but I am. The games were funny. Jo & Bette making up was sweet. Loved all the flirtation & hook ups w/ the couples, teens & adults. I guess cause Sam has so much it means so little when Gabe runs off w/ just a car. Def. know you’re a busy lady but glad to know you’re still working on the other fics. Loved it, JM.
