Kit: ask away… but first let me get my coffee and you one… it’s been a hell of a morning…

Linda: Kit… if you think I should just drop this… I will and not another word will be said…
Kit: sounds serious… what’s on your mind…
Linda: Bette’s Mother… do you know anything about her…
Kit: Wow… I remember that day she left… well the next morning… It was a Saturday night so I was over for the weekend… she put Bette to bed… poured herself a glass of wine… went and watched a little TV… Melvin came home… what a bastard he was… he didn’t notice the house was spotless… dinner was always waiting and warm for him… every thing was perfect… but God forbid Maxine relax and have a glass of wine and watch a show or two… he lost it again… and Maxine would always just sit there and let him rant and rave… and then she would go to bed…
Linda: How old was Bette…
Kit: about 8 or 9… yeah I was almost 16… and I couldn’t wait till I didn’t have to come over on the weekends… if it wasn’t for Bette and Maxine… I would have never been there…
Linda: so you liked Maxine…
Kit: Loved Maxine… she was so kind and she loved Bette and me… Bette was her world… she’s the reason Bette loves “Art” so much… she was an artist… man that woman could paint… and Bette would go on and on about her paintings… telling her mom what she thought the she was trying to say… and dam if Bette wasn’t right…
Linda: so what happened? I can under stand her leaving but to leave your child with that man…
Kit: well that night… they both were arguing… like I said Maxine would usually take it and go to bed… and the next morning Maxine would be so distant to Melvin… and the dope never could understand why… and you know… I have always heard Melvin tell Maxine if she ever left him… she better not even think of taking Bette… he would hunt her down… and you know I bet he would have…

This was a great chapter Amanda. I always felt sorry for Bette and if I could have beaten Melvin for what he did to Bette and her mother, I would have. I hate men that abuse women and children, now I’ve started hating him all over again. I hope Tina’s mom can find her, and if she does, I hope Bette can accept her. It wasn’t her fault that she left and that old bastard always threatened her if she tried to see Bette. Hope you let them reunite in your story. Great chapter. Thanks for posting.
