    Becoming Dana Fairbanks Chapter 19

I haven’t changed. I’m still Dana the tennis player, Irwin and Sharon’s daughter. Still scared to be anything else… I may as well still be in high school, Dana thought with a rueful smile, shaking her head at another missed opportunity. It would have been so easy. ‘Mom, I don’t want to go on a date with Thomas because I’m gay. Do they have a daughter?’ God, she would have probably fainted and when she woke up she…

“Whatcha doin’ Dane,” Howie asked pulling her out of her thoughts?

Smiling at the fact that her brother had pulled on the same clothes he wore yesterday after his shower.

“You know it defeats its purpose to take a shower and then put on dirty clothes you doof. You better change.”

“But this is my favorite shirt,” he explained, looking down to inspect it. “It’s not dirty.”

Dana just rolled her eyes, “Well, I’ll let you have this argument with mom, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

As the brunette started down the steps, her brother followed her. He was about to walk with her out to her car when Sharon said.

“Howard, I told you to shower and change your clothes. You go upstairs right now young man.”

    “But mom…”

“Bye How…bye mom,” Dana called from her car refusing to step into the battle that was about to erupt. For some reason, Howie was just so damn particular about what he wanted to wear and he and their mom got into more fights about clothes than Dana ever did.

Dana had just finished thanking the delivery guys for bringing in her new bedroom set. Soon she had put her fresh-from-the-dryer sheets on the queen sized bed and snuggled on the bed with a contented sigh.

Although her brother’s appearance in her old room back home had pulled her from her internal musings, it hadn’t completely pushed them out of her mind. The car ride back to LA had given her ample time to think over that last few years since that fateful summer at tennis camp.

She understood that on the outside, everything looked so different. She was in college and officially on her own with her new apartment and the financial freedom her trust provided. Tennis was going great. She had no doubt that a pro career was right around the corner following graduation. She had great friends and things with her family were good, minus the times were her mother decided to try to run her life.

    1. More Danish! Yay!! So excited to see a new chapter from you! It’s a great end to a three-day weekend. I have had that same Power Ranger argument. All the Howie/Dana stuff was great — very sibling-y. Love the detail of Alice trying not to swear in front of Howie. You did an amazing job conveying that feeling of moving from “childhood” to “adulthood” that you get from moving out of your parent’s home. I like how you wove Melanie into the story. Everyone’s opinion on Dana’s coming out seem so true to their characters. Thanks so much for the update, anionayo!!

    2. i havent commented on this one yet but i absolutely love it and have been following it for awhile now. you write the character really well and i look forward to the slow development of the danish relationship–what youre doing is really great. oh and i also liked the whole prelude to howie being gay re: his particularity about his clothing. very cute, cant wait for more!

    3. I so loved the pink ranger too.anionayo08 you are awesome for the power ranger arugement.Melanie into the story. Way to go that was really cool.Love it keep it up

    4. Thank you anionayo for explaining. I am all good now. Bud Light = water, lol. Nice job with this fun update. Same as swismiss24, I, too, continue to enjoy the development of A & D’s friendship. Looking back to the beginning of this story, D had already come a long way with her gayness. I am positive that you will bring her out of the closet with care. Great post and looking forward to more.

    5. ECHOOOO! WHere the heck was i when you posted? FYI: I think i could beat you by more than 50 seconds or whatever ;)…Excellent update i’m seriously loving the growing up stage/thinking..whatever process…Is it okay to say that i had a HUGE freaking crush on Kimberly, right on D! You know i was the pink ranger…at Halloween, LoL. Awesome job anionayo, looking forward to more greatness!
