American Werewolves in London: Gothic Romances

    There’s a part of you,

    I’m trying to reach

    Still a part I don’t know,

    Tell me…

Is devotion a gift or a thief,

Do you wish I’d let go?

    It’s only love

    But love

    Should make us strong

    It’s only love

    But love

    Has been

    Hurting

    So long…

In the dim glow of candlelight, Helena studied the profile of her lover.  The tips of her fingers memorized the sharp and suddenly foreign arcs of Bette’s face.

With a tired sigh she lay back down.  Life she had promised this woman, but more than that, for death would elude them both on this journey.

People could only stay together so long as they allowed one another to grow.  Would they grow? Would they change?

The subtle tastes of life were fallen gifts.  There was only this: coppery blood on her lips and tongue; the thrill of her lover beneath her hands.

And the yearning of Tina’s gaze.

Bette turned in her slumber.  It was nighttime, normally reserved for travel and feeding, at least for the vampires.  The lichens needed their rest, Helena mused. Theirs was a different kind of afterlife.  The shapeshifter beneath Bette’s skin knew the earth intimately.  Helena found herself forgetting these very things.

She rose softly and walked to Tina’s room.

This old house had belonged to Tina’s friend—a vampire slayer whose bones were now buried somewhere abroad. Long since abandoned by that family, it was a refuge for them for the time being.  The hallways were dark and eerily quiet.

Helena found the one who turned her with ease. Always, there was this invisible connection between them, like a tunnel or a vortex, that drew them together.

Tina sat amidst of hundreds of books.  The fireplace held glowing embers, but Tina didn’t need light to read.  The moon threw splashes of blue light across her cheekbones.  She wore only jeans and a tank top splattered with traces of blood.  A week before, Tina and Helena had snuck away together, unable to control themselves.  They fed on two members of the financial elite, hidden away in their blue steel towers.  When they were through, the bodies were thrown from the tops of the buildings.  In the morning, the papers called it a double suicide.

    1. Bette’s transformation into a Jaguar or Puma-like creature is kind of sexy; the eyes that “were death itself” not so much. I thoroughly enjoyed Tina’s musings on the void and nothingness, as well as (it goes without saying) Bette and Helena getting busy.

    2. Hey, have been silent for awhile but have been really enjoying this, so Bette’s a cross between American werewolf and Catpeople..yey Shane/Carm!..hmmm could Al/Dana be hunters?

    3. Oh goody, you’re back with the spooky crazy shit! Maybe I’m dense, but what’s the contradiction between a Bible and a book of torture? Haven’t they been using the Bible as an instrument of torture for millenia? And I would have thought that Bette in her hybrid werewolf/cat/vampire state would have been beyond getting creeped out by anything. Oh well. Just what are Shane and Carmen up to with their silver spike cottage industry? Now please don’t let it be so long between drinks, eh?

    4. See, I think the silver stakes are for upscale gardens, you know, to hold up the upscale beans and tomatoes and what have you. I refuse to think of other more sinister use. I am confused now, I LIKED Willow and Tara and Kennedy…but now they are bad, cos Bette and Helena rock and nobody better hurt them! Can’t you just lose Tina, speaking of torture, lol, for a little while, and have some more lovin with B and H? Are Shane and Carmen human?

    5.
