    A Slow Dance – Chapter 6

"Eric, it’s nice to see that you made it. On time, as always." Tina kissed him on the cheek in a friendly gesture. Eric returned the kiss and pulled away.

"You want to find a table?"

Tina nodded and walked over to a vacant booth next to the window. She slid in and waited for Eric to adjust his jacket. Once comfortable, the two began scanning the menu.

"The tuna sounds good." Stated Eric, his attention on the menu.

Tina nodded. "I think I’m going to go with the chicken salad. Yeah, chicken sounds good right now."

After a moment, Tina put down her menu and looked up at Eric with her let’s-get-down-to-business stare. When he didn’t look up, she started, "Eric, I think we – "

"Welcome to Maxine’s, I’m Maria. What can I get you guys to drink?"

They both spoke at once. "Water with lemon."

"They’ll be right out." The waitress found their synchronicity amusing and chuckled as she went to fetch the drinks.

Tina looked back at Eric. "We need to talk."

He nodded and waited for her to begin. She sighed, realizing that he was going to play the victim in this. Why did there always have to be a victim?

She ignored the question in her head and continued. "I didn’t break up with you because I hate you. You’re a wonderful guy, and I think we could be great friends. If you wanted to, that is. I truly apologize for the amount of cliches I’m about to use, but I met someone else. It really wasn’t you – it was them. And I refuse to lie to myself when it comes to relationships. I either feel something or I don’t, and I know that you know that this whole thing would’ve ended disastrously if I kept up appearances with you.

Tina sat up straighter in the seat. "I mean, if you had fallen in love with me, it would be horrible and I just didn’t want that to happen."

Eric nodded, purposefully keeping his expression blank. "It would be."

Tina stared at him for a moment and sighed. Goddamnit. "You love me, don’t you?"

"I don’t think that’s the point here, Tina." Eric stated flatly.

    1. My favorite line is this particular chapter…

“If I stay with Bette, then I stay with Bette, and if I don’t then I don’t. Whether I’m gay or straight shouldn’t matter here. It’s what I feel that does matter. And I don’t feel anything for anyone but Bette at the moment.”

      Go TINA Go!!!

    2. You can NOT be nineteen! But, hey, if you are, “Hey, Nineteen.” (That was a really cool song released a few years before you were born by Steely Dan…about an over thirty dude who meets a 19-year-old and has nothing in common with her but attraction.) But I digress.

Get ready for a semi-mega comment. If I can stop laughing. I’ve been laughing for at least 45 minutes since I tuned into your Author’s Notes. You are so f++king funny!!!

You have way too much talent…If I was an agent I’d be snapping you up and making my 15% off you pronto. Watch out for the vultures in your future.

Am I the only one who thinks Eric wanting to eat a fish dish is funny? And he orders Tina chicken? Braaack, braaack, braack, braack!!! She really is a (I hate the word lesbian) gay lady. In transition, my ass!

I am so, so , so pleased you appreciated my free association last time. Thanks for sharing the same page with me. It gets lonely sometimes.

And you’re right…no offense taken…I actually love being over thirty. Just wanted to kinda play with you a bit. Never expected an apology. If you’d given one, then I’d been offended. So there!! Backatcha!

I just really love this story and the way you write it! So, when you gonna get Bette and Tina “entangled?”

I’m really enjoying this…except for typing in this little box! Get on with your bad self!!

    3. “I’m in transition”. Well it will be over soon and you’ll be Bette’s. Finally Eric as a decent guy. Nice update, no major drama, just life moving forward. NOw off to Bette.
