Kyla took a deep breath and let it out unevenly.  She kept her eyes locked on the fire, ashamed to look up at the girl as she recalled everything she knew about that night.  From beginning to end; every detail was explained, nothing was neglected.

Kasey was relieved to know that the young brunette’s story matched Aiden’s, meaning the two were one and the same.  Kyla looked at her expectantly, absolutely sure that she would storm off angry and hurt.  To her surprise Kasey remained seated and reached out interlacing their fingers together.

“Aiden let it slip that…that you slept with him that night.  I’m sorry that I deceived you, made you think I didn’t know.”  Kyla shook her head, desperately holding back a tear that wanted nothing more than to make its presence known.  “No Kasey, I’m sorry for-“ The girl next to her interjected.

“No Ky, I’m sorry.  At first I didn’t know how I felt.  I was pissed and ready to kill the guy.  The next minute I was furious with you and then I felt…I felt as if though somehow I had let you down and I did.  I was a coward.  I should have made him leave the second I saw him kiss you but instead I just walked away.  And for that, I’m sorry.”  Kasey shook her head feeling both guilty and ashamed.  She continued before Kyla could object and try to blame herself for what had happened.

“Now all I want to do is forget about it.  Of all people I should know that life is much too short, you have to enjoy it.”  Kasey noticed Ashley grinning from ear to ear across from them.  Spencer giggled and nudged the girl telling her to stop staring.  That didn’t deter the brunette one bit; instead she gave Kasey a bright smile and a thumb’s up encouraging her to continue.

Kasey swallowed dryly noticing a stray tear making its way down Kyla’s cheek.  With the hand that gently gripped Kyla’s, she brought her thumb up and wiped away the droplet.  Leaving their hands against her cheek, she softly turned the girl’s face toward her own.

“Kyla, I love you.”  She whispered.  She had never felt what most people had described as being thousands of butterflies fluttering in your stomach up until now.  It was odd but she enjoyed it somehow.  Kasey didn’t expect a response however Kyla surprised her with a feather light peck on the lips and a whisper in return.  “I love you too Kasey.”

Their foreheads were rested lightly against one another.  “I’ve missed you so much.  I’m sorry-“ A finger softly placed on Kyla’s lips prevented her from continuing.  “No more apologizing.  Let’s not waste anymore time.”

“See!  I told you they’d work it out!  This is great!”  Spencer giggled in response to the brunette’s enthusiasm.  Ashley’s mood shifted from good to great as she hugged Spencer and lugged her to her feet.  “C’mon babe, let’s go dance!”  They followed the sound of the music, Ashley wiggling her bum as they faded into the crowd.

Madison was left alone still being kept warm thanks to Kasey’s sweatshirt.  She quickly glanced up at the couple who held each other’s gaze, quietly kissing and smiling in the process.  Suddenly feeling a slight unwanted pang of jealousy, the Latina stood and left to find Aiden.  ‘Get a grip.’  She thought, finally spotting him amongst his teammates.
