Why Superman Could Never Find a Phone Book – (Chapter: 10: Now Is the Winter of Our Discontent)
Ashley reached for Dodger’s arm, attempting to not lose track of him in the crowd. She loosened her grip a bit, hoping Dodger wasn’t placing more meaning on their touch than he should, as both understood there had been a slight shift in their platonic relationship. Dodger used his arm to squeeze Ashley’s hand against his side, hoping his touch would give her courage, all the while wondering how long he should keep his arm against hers, if there were now rules to their affection.
Dodger steered the two into the mess of bodies, Ashley’s bare arm sliding against a sweaty back, the tee shirt melded to the girl’s back. The heat was almost unbearable, the smell of alcohol and lust, a presumably dangerous combination at a high school party, the results most likely a mixture of missed periods and bad hangovers.
Dodger lifted himself up onto his toes, peering over the eye line of the crowd, seeking safety, a space where the two could regroup and Ashley could plan her attack. He grinned imagining Ashley in camouflage, sipping from a canteen, blueprints of her mission unfolded on her lap.
Spying an empty corner near the back patio and an expensive lamp, he glanced back at Ash, motioning for her to follow him. It was then his eyes caught notice of her notebook she clutched to her left side.
Using his shoulder as a shield, Dodger pushed his way through the wall of bodies, hating the idea that Ashley might be concerned about her hair as her small frame was tossed about in the pit of limbs and foaming plastic cups.
With backs to the wall, Ashley glanced ahead at their previous escape route, having a difficult time figuring out how they had managed to squeeze through the herd. Glancing to her left, she spied the faint blue wallpaper that covered the living room walls. There seemed to be tiny yellow flowers immersed within the blue. The carpet was beige, which didn’t really seem to mesh well with the choice of wallpapering. Ashley mentally slapped herself, wondering why the hell she was concerned about Aiden’s parent’s interior design skills.
She closed her eyes, wanting to her frame to seep into the walls, only to open her eyes and discover she was one of the pretty yellow flowers, able to watch the evening unfold in secrecy, like a fly on the wall, only more aesthetically pleasing and smelling much nicer. Her hand gripped the notebook, the spine of the thin book pressing into her palm and her hip. Panic set in as she wished she had brought a bag to put it in, so no one saw she had with her.

First of all, your screen name is very funny. (peglegmeg. heeheehee!) And I’m sorry to ask you this, but I feel kind of required to. Are you OK? I mean, this story is great so far and I’m really enjoying it, but it is also very dark. Maybe that’s just the way you write, though. I don’t know for sure. I just hope that you’re not writing this way because you’re depressed. Anyway, regarding the story, I’d love to read more from you. As dark as it is, I can’t wait for more :)
I love your story. very very intresting. I’m a little confused with some of the jumping around but, dosen’t make me stop reading. (that’s probably just me anyways) cause you know what your doing. which leads me to believe, someone has had writting or is in writting classes. am i right? hope you post more tomorrow. I think i’m your #1 fan. I know I am! post more please!
LOL. No, I am not depressed. The story is just quite deep. I know transitions can be rather jarring from time to time in between posts, however it will all make sense in the end. This fic is about survival and personal acceptance, and this will be expressed more clearly as it progresses. Dark, yes, but there is a giant white light at the end of the tunnel, folks. And the Donnie Darko comparison comment ROCKS MY WORLD.check me out of MySpace if yah want. “Peg Leg Meg” aaarrrghhhh, matey!
