Why Superman Could Never Find a Phone Book – (Chapter: 10: Now Is the Winter of Our Discontent)
Ashley turned behind her, her heart twitching nervously, having been utterly distracted by the pathetic sight that lay in a pile under the van. Annoyed by the entire situation, she silently hoped he’d crawl aimlessly under the van and Dodger could accidentally run him over later.
“I think he’s pretty drunk.” Dodger sniffed and pulled his glasses from his face and used two fingers to wipe at his eyes. Ashley just stared at him, her forehead scrunched up and one eyebrow standing at attention.
“Brilliant deduction, there Dodger. I’ll call Scotland Yard and tell them you’re on the case.”
Dodger laughed huskily and nudged the boy with his shoe.
“Why are you always poking things?” Ashley had shifted her body towards him, as if attempting to obtain the best vantage point in which to study his reaction.
“I don’t poke stuff…I just wanted to push him around cause he’s unconscious or something…it’s fun.”
A streetlight flickered above them as if signaling the end of intermission, the final act ready to begin: Everyone take your seats, and please, don’t stick your gum underneath the seat.
She looked down at her pant legs, slightly taken off guard by her tight jeans, as if her lower extremities belonged to someone else. She rubbed her lips together, decided they were to dry, pulled her gloss from her back pocket and blindly reapplied. She wanted to glance at her reflection one last time, to make sure she looked all right, but the lamp kept flickering incessantly, as if to say, Stop Stalling!
Dodger leaned in towards her and subtly twisted her sash belt so that it looked right. As if returning the thoughtful gesture, Ash unbuttoned the top button of his shirt and smiled.
Without speaking, the two turned and headed towards the music, Dodger’s shoes dragging against the asphalt, collecting tiny rocks and pebbles, the shoe then immediately discarding them off to the side. Their bodies faded into shadow as they made their way up the inclined street, the flickering light illuminating the discombobulated body that still rested beneath the worn out van.
Swarms of people were entering and exiting and house, like millions of tiny ants carrying shiny kegs of beer back to the colony. Plastic cups littered the front lawn, making audible cracking noises when trampled by teenage feet.

First of all, your screen name is very funny. (peglegmeg. heeheehee!) And I’m sorry to ask you this, but I feel kind of required to. Are you OK? I mean, this story is great so far and I’m really enjoying it, but it is also very dark. Maybe that’s just the way you write, though. I don’t know for sure. I just hope that you’re not writing this way because you’re depressed. Anyway, regarding the story, I’d love to read more from you. As dark as it is, I can’t wait for more :)
I love your story. very very intresting. I’m a little confused with some of the jumping around but, dosen’t make me stop reading. (that’s probably just me anyways) cause you know what your doing. which leads me to believe, someone has had writting or is in writting classes. am i right? hope you post more tomorrow. I think i’m your #1 fan. I know I am! post more please!
LOL. No, I am not depressed. The story is just quite deep. I know transitions can be rather jarring from time to time in between posts, however it will all make sense in the end. This fic is about survival and personal acceptance, and this will be expressed more clearly as it progresses. Dark, yes, but there is a giant white light at the end of the tunnel, folks. And the Donnie Darko comparison comment ROCKS MY WORLD.check me out of MySpace if yah want. “Peg Leg Meg” aaarrrghhhh, matey!
