When Night Falls – (Chapter: Chapter 3: The dead of things)
I said a she laughed. There was silence as she stood in front of me on the bustling street.
Madison: Well Ill let you get going to the Synogogue.
She said.
Ashley: yes and Ill let you get back to going to the market.
I said with a smile and she returned it.
MAdison: Alright then, I will see you later then Ashley.
Ashley: Alright then.
I said and she scurried off in the direction of the market and I continued my trek to the synogogue.
By the time I got home from the Synogogue it was dark and mother was making dinner. I came through the front door and as soon as it closed my mother called out to me.
Christine: Ashley! youre late.
She said and I made my way to the kitchen. I walked in, giving her a kiss on the cheek, and picking out of the dinner that she as making. She slapped my hand away and I took a seat at the kitchen table.
Ashley: Yea sorry for being late, my mourning took longer than I anticipated. Afterall Ima, you cant really put a time on those type of things.
I said and she smiled as she stired whatever it was that she was cooking.
Christine: Alright Ill let it pass this time but no more being late ok. Theres enough going on in this world that I have to worry about, I dont want to have to worry about you as well.
Ashley: Its ok, you neednt worry about me.
I said smiling. I then exited the kitchen and went to look for Kyla.
I went into her room and it was empty and not a trace of kyla. I went back downstairs and into the kitchen again.
Ashley: Kyla left?
I asked my mother, already knoing the answer to my on question.
Christine: yes she finished packing earlier than she thought and her and aiden left not too long after you left to go to the synogogue. She told me to tell you that she loves you and that you can stop by and visit her any time you would like. She left the address on the nightstand in your room.
She said this with evident sadness in her voice. I couldnt help but blame her for Kyla having to leave. If it wasnt for her pressuring her into getting married, then she would still be here. I know that for a fact because my father would have liked more than anything for her to stay home and not get married. I loved my mother but I refused to let her guilt me into marrying a person I did not want to. I left the kitchen without another word untill she called me down for dinner. That night at the dinner table it was only me, my mother, and my father. It felt rather empty without Kyla there. After dinner I helped my mother was the dishes and put the food away in silence. I knew I couldnt give her the silent treatment forever but no seemed like as good a time as ever. I then went to wash up and went straight to bed. Although it hadnt even been twenty four hours since Ky left, life already felt dull and boring. That night I didnt sleep with ease. I tossed and turned all night. The situation with the war as getting worse in my opinion and Kyla was finally gone and on her on, leaving me on my own. To me, life was slowly disappearing under the cover of the twilight and the war that steadied on and on was getting closer to home and achieving its goal everyday.
