When Night Falls – (Chapter: Chapter 3: The dead of things)
I layed out on my bed listening to Budapest radio. I had my room door closed so my mother would not hear the radio. She had made me turn it off the other day, claiming that I was obssessed but i was not obssessed, just highly concerned. It announced that the facist party had sezied power and that the regent Miklos Horthy was forced to ask a leader of the pro-Nazi Nyilas party to form a new government. I sat up in my bed upon hearing the news and turned my radio off. It was too much for me to listen to after all. With each day, my feeling of dread was growing and growing. I knew now that somehow our days were numbered.
I got out of my bed and made my way out of my room and to Kylas bedroom. I knocked first then opened the door. I came into the sight of her packing. She had been at it for a couple days, trying to get everything she owned out of her room. She was currently packing due to the fact that she was going to live with Aiden, which was now officially her husband. Like Ive said before, it took quite sometime for her to agree to the, as she would say, modern day form of slavery. Although it was something she initially hated, she was a good sport about it. The wedding was held a few weeks ago and was beautiful, thanks to none other than my mother. It was not too flashy but was still rather elegant and the dress I had to endure was not as hideous as I had anticipated it to be.
Kyla: whats up kiddo?
She asked me, taking a break from taping a box together. She blew out a breath she had been holding and I fiddled with my hands.
Ashley: You really moving out this week?
I asked. I knew the answer but I was still in denial about the whole situation. I didnt want her to go. She was my best friend and now with her being married, and to Aiden no less, Id most likely have to schedule times I wanted to talk to her.
Kyla: Yep I am. Just trying to get the last of my things out. Aiden and I got a place not too far from here. Its cozy and I really like it.
