The Happiest Moment of My Life
“Too tight, Alice!” I squeaked as she yanked on the string of the corset “unlike you, I need to breathe.”
“Sorry, Bella. It's just, I’m so excited for you.” she said loosening it up. “Why do I have to wear this horrible thing anyway? Like you say, I’m already as thin as a rail. OUCH!!” I screamed as Rosalie pulled on my hair. “If you quit squirming, maybe I wouldn't have to work so hard.” Rosalie said attempting to put my hair into a bun. But of course she wouldn't succeed. For a pathetic excuse for my hair is untamable. A few minutes later I heard an exasperated sigh escape Rosalie's lips. The long brown locks now hung loosely against my back.
I held my breath as Alice zipped up the dress. It fit like a glove. Looking in the mirror I gasped at my reflection. Standing there was not the girl that I knew but someone I had never met before. In her brown eyes I saw happiness and longing, her bright cheeks held vibrant youth. The dresses bodice (custom made Vera Wang thanks to Alice) hugged every curve of my waist fixing me in all the right places. The silk skirt flew out in all directions and tickled my legs as I walked. The crystal slippers on my small feet glistened like diamonds in the light.
A knock at the door interrupted my daydream. Esme poked her head into the room. “Three minutes girls. Oh, my. Bella, you are simply beautiful.” she walked over to me and held my hand, tears pooled up in her eyes. I smiled at my future mother-in-law. “Thank you, Esme, but all this is Alice and Rosalie's magic.”
“Oh, girls you did an excellent job. Come now. We're about to start.”
Esme lead the way out of the room. I went to stand next to my father. “Bella, you're as beautiful as your mother.” Dad hugged me tightly and kissed the top of my head. “I love you, Dad.” I faced forward. Butterflies danced in my stomach as I stood behind the closed oak doors. Breathe in, breathe out. I told myself. Breathe in, breathe out. Alice, Rosalie, and Esme had gone to stand with the family. I was alone. “You'll do fine, honey.” Dad said next to me as if reading my thoughts. Okay, well, not entirely alone. He squeezed my hand for reassurance. “Dad, I'm scared.” I would a piece of the veil around a finger. “Don't be. If anything happens I'll throw him behind bars. After all I am the town sheriff. “
