Taking the Long Way – (Chapter: 12: She said, She said)

“Ash, I don’t know how long I have waited for you to start talking like this again.”  He said.  “It makes me so happy.”

I was confused.  “How is the fact that I think I am fucked up a good thing?”

He laughed.  “First off, you WERE fucked up but you aren’t anymore.  Secondly, all those reasons you just listed off why you think you shouldn’t date Spencer are exactly why you should.  You are considering putting your self out there Ashley.  That is a HUGE step for you.  The only way you can answer those questions is to give it a try.  Hell yeah it is scary, but it could be worth it.  The pay-off of finding that out is so much better than just being stuck with all the ‘what ifs’.”

He always knew the right things to say.

“I feel kind of like Spencer might be getting trapped into being the ‘Welcome back Ashley’ guinea pig.” I said.

“Just always be honest, Ash.  Things will be what they will be if the effort is there from both sides.  Spencer isn’t going to get ‘trapped’ into anything she doesn’t want to be.” He said.

Thank God I had him in my life.   He always gave so much of his time and support to me and never asked for anything back.  I gave him another hug.  I stood up and said I had probably better get back to my Grandma’s.  I told him that I wanted a full report after his date on Wednesday.  I could tell he was out of his mind excited about it.  It was good to see him happy.  Maybe this move out of LA was going to be good for both of us.

    Spencer POV:

After lunch with Ashley I don’t even remember how I got to class.  Hell, I could have walked into the wrong lecture and not even known.  Thankfully I did have the right one and I snapped out of my daze when I hear the professor say there would be a quiz on Friday.  I looked down at my notes…yeah nothing there.  Great.  Unless the quiz contained questions like, ‘Do you find a certain brown haired girl named Ashley attractive.  Please answer yes or no.’ or ‘You thought the relationship should progress slowly.  Please explain how you intend to accomplish this near impossible lesbian feat in 50 words or less.’  I was going to be totally screwed.  After the class ended I caught up with a girl I knew to be a good note taker and asked if I could have a copy of her notes.  She was missing a day that I had so we swapped.  Crisis avoided.
