“I just wanted to say I’m sorry,” she sighed, suddenly reaching out to still the bottle. Her hand brushed mine, causing me to quickly pull away as though she’d scalded me, our eyes meeting in an intense glare that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.
“For what?” I asked, pushing her further and further towards admitting what she’d done to me.
“Lying to you,” she said quietly.
“That’s it? You’re sorry for lying to me?” I asked sardonically.
“I’m sorry for everything I did to you… but I’m especially sorry for lying to you,” she said pathetically. “I’m sorry I let you think I was something that I wasn’t.”
“What? That you were into me?” I asked.
“I was into you,” she corrected me.
“Just not enough,” I finished for her, pulling my Corona from her fingers to take another long swig. “You make me realize something huge about myself, lead me on, fuck with me completely, and then completely disappear from my life.” I chose not to divulge the fact I knew the real reason why she vanished – I didn’t want to have that conversation right now… if ever.
“It wasn’t like that,” she claimed desperately, her voice losing all of its originally forced calm, “and you should know it!”
“I don’t know anything anymore, Spencer,” I told her. “You suddenly come back into my life, and spring this shit on me, thinking I’ll just take it ‘cos I so desperately need an explanation after five years!? Why the fuck did you really come over here? Did you wanna see if you could still manipulate me like you did the naive nineteen year old that I was?”
“What?! No, don’t be ridiculous!” she cried, backpedalling. “I just thought I owed you an explanation; that it’d make it easier for us to work together -”
“Nothing – nothing – will make it easy for us to work together again, Spencer -”
“Ash, please -”
“Don’t you fucking dare,” I seethed, “you don’t have the right to call me Ash anymore… in fact you don’t have the right to call me anything at all, let alone be in my home. I’d appreciate it if you left now.”
“Ashley, please,” she pleaded, her voice a whisper.

Wow. Now we know why Ash is pissed. I would be too if the person I was falling in love with did that to me. Update soon, would ya? I’m ready for some more “project new girl”. :] Woot. And I think there might just be more behind the story then what is at first revealed. Hmm?
Oh I so love the way that this is written. I was glued to my screen taking in every word and every phrase. This is a great story. Great work. PMS.
