She looked gorgeous, as if she ever doesn’t, but the way the setting sun was hitting her was breathtaking.

“Spencer” Ashley spoke my name with a beaming smile on her face.

I returned the smile with just as much intensity and went to step towards my girlfriend. Suddenly everything turned grey and clouds took over the sky. A cold breeze swept by me causing chills to run along my spine.

What the hell?

“You can’t have her Ashley!” The booming voice of my mother cracked louder than the sounds of the storm forming. “My daughter’s not like you!”

My mother finally made an appearance from behind me, brushing by me as if I was never there. She stomped her way over to my surprised girlfriend and continued yelling.

“Who do you think you are trying to turn Spencer?”

“Paula, please just here me out. I love your daughter and she loves me. Why can’t you see that?” Ashley had tears forming at the corners of her eyes.

“Mom, stop it!” I ran over to my mom who now had a firm grip on Ashley’s shoulders. “Leave her alone!”

I went to grab my mom off of Ashley, but to my surprise my hands went right through her, as if she was nothing more than air.

“Wha- how?” I said staring at my hands like they were foreign objects.

What just happened?

“I’m sorry Ashley, but my daughter has everything going for her and there’s just no room for you.” My mom began slowly walking forward and backing Ashley closer to the cliffs edge.

“Mrs. Carlin, why can’t you just accept that Spencer is gay and wants to be with me?”

The desperation in Ashley’s voice was almost too painful to hear. She sounded so broken.

“I’m sorry Ashley. Spencer’s going to marry a rich, male doctor and have an actual family. You know, something two girls could never create.” My mom spat out sarcastically and it made me just want to smack her.

“I’m sorry too Paula, because unfortunately for you, the little future you have planned for Spencer is going to be with me. I’m too far in love with your daughter to back down now.” Ashley said with a smirk planted on her face.
