    Completely Incomplete – (Chapter: 40 and 41)

“That’s good, then. Make it a bit less lonely.”

    “Exactly.”

“Are you gonna try to get to L.A. after?”

    “I… I don’t know. I guess it just depends…”

“Oh. Well, I’ll give you my number,” he said as he pulled out a pen. “Call me if you’re ever in L.A… maybe we could go out for lunch or something. Strictly friends, obviously.”

“Yeah, that sounds great,” I told him sincerely. He placed the paper down on my nightstand.

“Well, uh… I think I have to go,” he said. “It was… nice meeting you? I guess?” We both laughed; the circumstances were just so bizarre.

    “Likewise,” I smiled.

“Good luck… you know, like, figuring your life out and stuff.”

    “Thanks. Bye Logan.”

“Peace.” If only he knew how much he’d helped me…

A few minutes after Logan left, a different nurse came in to check the stitches on my forehead. When she was reapplying the bandage, the man I recognized as Dr. Campbell walked in.

“Miss Carlin… how are we doing here?” he asked. I hated when doctors referred to patients as ‘we.’ It’s like, both of us aren’t in pain here, Doc. I’m pretty sure that you’re feeling a-okay right now.

    “Alright,” I replied.

“I’d like you to take 2 deep breaths for me.” Excuse me? “I know it’s going to hurt, but we need to make sure your lungs are staying free of infection. It’s not uncommon for patients with fractured ribs to develop pulmonary problems.”

“Okay,” I relented. He placed his stethoscope on my chest and I breathed in as hard as I could, until I could feel tears forming at the corners of my eyes. That hurt… SO much.

“Good job. And again.” I repeated the action, glad that it didn’t hurt more the second time around. “Great. Everything sounds normal in there. Make sure you keep drinking fluids. You should also be eating.”

    “I don’t think I’m ready for that… I’m still nauseous.”

“I’ll have the nurse bring in some saltines, then. You need some food in your stomach,” he told me. “Now on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being no pain at all, 10 being the worst pain you’ve ever experienced in your life, how does your head feel?”

    2. Yay! So glad to see Spencer’s alive and Ash is already in Ohio! They belong together. I’m happy they are working things out now and I really love this story.

    3. You’re killing me here. Two updates and they still haven’t had THE conversation. The conversation about what was going to happen now and what they are to each other exactly. I need to know what’s going on. So sweet of Ashley to run to Spencer’s side. Just be together already, you know you both want it!

    4. So this was Ashley’s reality check right? After her emotional reaction to finding out that Spencer was alright, they can’t just keep their status quo. *sigh* Once this story is over, I’m going to have some serious withdrawal
