    Hi, my name is Spencer Carlin, and is that Ashley?

    “Yup. I just… figured a lot of stuff out… and I wanted to come apologize to you, but obviously that didn’t work out as planned.”

    “You don’t need to-“

    “Spence!” a familiar voice called, interrupting whatever Ashley was about to say.

    “Hey Glen!” I watched my brother and his wife, Allison, walk inside.

    “Holy shit… Ashley Davies… in the flesh!” Glen exclaimed, giving Ashley a hug. I realized I’d neglected to tell him that Ashley and I were… whatever it is that we were. I guess he hadn’t seen her since my freshman year of college.

    “Nice to see you, too… asshat,” Ashley teased, evoking laughter from Glen.

    “Ashley, this is my wife, Allison. Al, this is Ashley Davies.” The two exchanged greetings. Allison had always been a tad bit quiet, which I found strange considering she was married to my brother. She was also very, very sweet… which I also found strange considering she was married to my brother. The two met in college and got married a couple years ago. And for some reason, it was working. “How are you feeling, Spence?”

    “Okay, I guess.”

    “Dad called and told me you were just a little banged up, but overall you were okay.”

    “Yeah-“

    “That, and she was in a plane crash! You make it sound like she tripped and sprained her ankle, jerk!” Ashley said, giving him a poke.

    “Hey… she knows I care. Right, Spencer?” Glen asked.

    “Right.” I nodded to show my support.

    “Not as much as me though,” Ashley said.

    “Probably not,” I affirmed.

    “Whose side are you on, Spence?” Glen exclaimed, grinning.

    “Ashley’s.” Ashley smiled at me before sticking her tongue out at Glen. This was so much like high school…

    “I’m your brother, though!”

    “Yeah, but Ashley flew out here from L.A. and got here before you. You drove from, like, the county over.”

    “Seriously, Glen… that’s lame.”

    “What?! I was at work all day, and we were halfway over here when Dad called and said you were fine. So we stopped for some ribs.”

    “The truth comes out…” I teased him.

    “That was Glen’s idea, not mine,” Allison added, finally joining the conversation.

    “Everything stupid is Glen’s idea,” Ashley remarked.

    “That is so not true! And ribs aren’t stupid.”

    “Yeah, about ribs… did you know mine are fractured?” I wanted to change the subject. When Ashley and Glen got into these stupid little teasing matches, they could sometimes last for hours. And while they were amusing at first, they got kind of lame after awhile.

    “Yeah… do they hurt a lot?”

    “Only when I breathe.” He laughed and took a few steps forward. He seemed to be looking for something.

    “Hey, do you have a t.v. in here?” he asked

    “No.”

    “Man, how am I supposed to watch the game? It’s Reds at Phillies tonight!”

    “Glen, you’re my brother and I love you and all… but you really don’t have to be here right now.”

    “What?”

    “I’m fine… Ashley’s already here, and I know you have work tomorrow and want to watch your game, so I’m telling you that you can go.”

    “Are you sure?”

    “Positive,” I told him.

    “Alright… well, I guess we’ll take off then,” he said. “Call me tomorrow. Or before then, if you need anything.”

    “Thanks, Glen. Thanks for coming.”

    “Make sure we get to hang out before you leave the state.”

    “I will. Bye Allison… bye Glen.” I watched them walk out and waited until I was certain they were out of earshot before turning my attention back to Ashley.

    “He hasn’t changed one bit since high school,” she remarked.

    “I know. Well, he’s grown up a little bit.”

    “Not much.” I laughed and squeezed her hand again.

    “You know… if you want to go get some sleep or something, like at a hotel… I’d be fine with it,” I told her. I didn’t really want her to leave, but I didn’t want her to feel stuck. The bed I was on was small and with the influx of patients from the plane, I doubted they’d be able to get a cot in here for her.

    “Uh, no.” And that was the end of that discussion.

    2. hahahaha i love how its just a simple ‘uh, no.’ and not a huge ashley freak out like “are you KIDDING me?! you were JUST in a plane crash! you could’ve died spencer carlin! theres no way i’m letting you out of my sight! uh uh, no way. NOT having it!” or something of the sort haha. good lord, wonderful update. love it. LOVE it! and love you. for writing such the incredible story. ughhh. cant wait for them to have a talk. because really, they need to. and they need to get officially back together. PRONTO! haha. so amped for the next one. :-D

    5. Yay! So glad to see Spencer’s alive and Ash is already in Ohio! They belong together. I’m happy they are working things out now and I really love this story.

    8. You’re killing me here. Two updates and they still haven’t had THE conversation. The conversation about what was going to happen now and what they are to each other exactly. I need to know what’s going on. So sweet of Ashley to run to Spencer’s side. Just be together already, you know you both want it!

    9. So this was Ashley’s reality check right? After her emotional reaction to finding out that Spencer was alright, they can’t just keep their status quo. *sigh* Once this story is over, I’m going to have some serious withdrawal
