14. Jane Rizzoli, person of interest in disappearance

Jane sat on her temporary bunk and bounced a stress ball she dug out of her desk off the ceiling repeatedly. More than anything, she felt like a grounded child versus a prisoner. Korsak startled her when he opened the door.
”Jane, we need to talk.”
”So what do you want to shoot the shit about, the Sox in training, weather, how long it takes for a vic to bleed out?”
”Maura, smart ass.” Vince used his badass voice, but mellowed when he grabbed a chair turned it around, straddling it as he sat down.
”You know her as well as I do, Vince,” Jane muttered sadly. She sat up on the bed, planted her feet on the floor facing him.
”C’mon, Janie, I need Detective Rizzoli right now, not the broken hearted, cynical housewife.”
Jane sat there trying to compose herself after what Korsak had said. He called her ’Maura’s wife’ with a reverent and respectful tone.
”You were there, Korsak. We went to bed, we celebrated as quietly as possible and fell asleep. When I woke up, she was gone.”
”What does your gut say, Rizzoli?”
”I need evidence, one concrete lead. I can’t let myself think she left, because she chickened out or got cold feet, but I have. I couldn’t bear that, Korsak. And I need to know where the hell that money came from. If I were working this case, I’d be checking bank videos. Is that why Cav is holding me, the money?”
Korsak drew his head back, raised his eyebrows questioning. He felt great devotion to Jane, but apparently did not have all the details from Cavanaugh yet.
At any rate, he intended to give Jane every opportunity to defend herself.
”Let me get with Cav and see what I can squirrel out of him while you are our guest. In the meantime, start writing down your statement from the point at which we all began arriving for the party. And Jane, I don’t care what you and Dr. Isles do behind closed doors taming the wild tiger,” Vince smirked as Jane started to turn pink. ”I need a timeframe to work with.” Korsak set a tablet and pen on the stand beside Jane and turned to leave. Over his shoulder, he added, ”We’ll get this figured out, Janie.”
Jane was still perched on the edge of the cot, considering her chances for disappearance. She was slightly mortified that Vince referred to Maura as the ’wild tiger’. Perhaps he had heard them and was attempting to tease her and be a gentleman both.
Her gut was telling her that this wreaked of Paddy Doyle. She just couldn’t prove it yet.

I have been looking forward to a new update to this story. I love Rizzoli and Isles and you make a very interesting story with them.
I hope you bring back Maura safe. but it is very good that she was able to send a message to Jane that she is fine.
I’m looking forward to the next chapter.
You actually changed the direction of this story. There were no other comments as to Maura’s missing, so I went with your “short term ” idea. Originally I was thinking 3 or 4 months. Thank you for following.
Thx for your update love you story. Pps
Great update. Love your story and you are doing a great job writing this story. It’s wonderful that Maura was able to get a message to Jane that she was alive and well. Now its up to Korsak to unravel the things that Maura sent her. When Paddy sees the newspaper or his contacts tell him that Jane has been detained as a person of interest in Mauras’ disapparance maybe he will speed up the investigation so she can get back home to Jane and their life. This is a great story, can hardly wait for the next chapter. Thanks for posting and the longer chapters are much appreciated.
A little bit confused as to why Jane was arrested. Happy that Maura was able to contact Jane.
