    14. Jane Rizzoli, person of interest in disappearance

Jane knew she did not have a lot of time. There was no solid evidence to implicate her in Maura’s disappearance except for the recently discovered pile of money in her bank account. New wealth, new jewelry. Oh hell, it did look like motive, but Jane would sacrifice all of it to get Maura back.
The last place they were together was the bedroom, so the investigation would be centered there.
”Jane,” The lieutenant’s voice drew her back in from her thoughts.
”There is no way you have anything to do with this. I know you, I know Maura and I believe you. But Dr. Isles is a public figure and both the ADA and internal affairs will be chomping at the bit. Therefore, the safest thing you can do is pose as our temporary scapegoat. Please bring me your gun and shield.”
Cavanaugh knew he had to bring Jane in by himself, because no other detective would be willing to be part of it. Then he would face suspending his entire squad. But that didn’t make this any easier. He also realized he could not risk putting Jane in a general population cell, since she had questioned or busted a third of the people in there.
Shawn called Frost and had him set up a cot and a filing cabinet for a nightstand in an investigation room. This way she would not leave the precinct without someone noticing. Technically, this was not an arrest more like a person of interest.
Jane was relieved they weren’t proceeding with a full out arrest. She needed to avoid arraignment at all costs. Besides, if she was held at the precinct, she could indiscreetly follow the case.
”Do you mind if I talk to Ma a second first?”
    ”Of course not,” he nodded.
Jane flipped her phone open and texted,
    ”Ma, come over, 911.”
In less than three minutes, Angela was inside the back door.
”Janie, what’s wrong? Shawn, what’s going on?”
Angela was a little more insistent the second time she addressed him.
”Angie, we need to take Jane in as a person of interest.”
”What do you mean,” she barked angrily and took hold of Jane’s arm protectively.
”Ma, it’s okay,” Jane consoled.”I just need you to take care of Jo and a couple other things.”
”Jane is a person of interest in Maura’s disappearance. We need to take her to the station for her own benefit.”
”What does that mean, Shawn, are you arresting her? You know Jane. This is asinine. Jane, who does Maura call for an attorney?” Angela’s distress was showing as her grip tightened on her child.
”I don’t know, Ma. Listen, do two things. Call Constance. She doesn’t know about Maura yet and I don’t want her to find out from the news. I’ll be okay, Ma. And lock the house up tight. It might be considered a crime scene at some point.”
Jane bit her tongue a second after ’crime scene’ was out of her mouth.
”I love you, Ma. Just make the calls. I’ll be okay at the station.”
”Jane,” her mother called after her. ”I am calling an attorney. Shawn, you know this isn’t right!”

    1. I have been looking forward to a new update to this story. I love Rizzoli and Isles and you make a very interesting story with them.
I hope you bring back Maura safe. but it is very good that she was able to send a message to Jane that she is fine.
I’m looking forward to the next chapter.

      • You actually changed the direction of this story. There were no other comments as to Maura’s missing, so I went with your “short term ” idea. Originally I was thinking 3 or 4 months. Thank you for following.

    2. Great update. Love your story and you are doing a great job writing this story. It’s wonderful that Maura was able to get a message to Jane that she was alive and well. Now its up to Korsak to unravel the things that Maura sent her. When Paddy sees the newspaper or his contacts tell him that Jane has been detained as a person of interest in Mauras’ disapparance maybe he will speed up the investigation so she can get back home to Jane and their life. This is a great story, can hardly wait for the next chapter. Thanks for posting and the longer chapters are much appreciated.
