In the arms of an angel

I slowly find my way back to the bedroom where Helena is awake. “Who called?” she asks me as her eyes saunters me. I let out a sigh as I start change my clothes in complete silence. “Tina has been in a car accident, I am down as next of kid for her” I let the words linger. “Is it serious?” her night stand lamp is suddenly on I see her features bathed in shadows. “It seems so” I respond pulling my sweater on. “I am just so confused” I fall down onto to the bed again, I feel her warm hand on my back. “I still care about her, Helena, she was my first love, she gave me my first baby, I have to go” I feel an urge to defend myself. “Sweetie, Tina will always mean a lot to you, let me come with you, not to check up on you, but as a support” she slips out of bed gingerly awaiting my responds. I lean in and give her a long kiss, “Are you up for it?” I rest my hand on her cheek. “I am always up for being there for you.

20 minutes later we hurry in to the hospital, I walk up to the nearest reception addressing the sweet woman that is seated behind the glass. She gently directs me to wait for Tina’s doctors so both
Helena and I sip on our coffee while enjoying the lovely hospital chairs. “How are you feeling?” I position my hand behind Helena so she can rest on it. “I’ll live, are Henry with Angie and the kids?” her voice is calm and soothing. “Yep but his mother is coming so he will be here any minute” I cast a glance at my watch. I do not look forward to meeting him, but I know that for Tina’s sake I need to stay calm. Three minutes later he walks in an expression of real concern and I slowly raise to great him. “What are you doing here?” his voice is sour and his expression ready to kill. I breathe in slowly as I feel Helena appear beside me. “I am listed as next of kid” I say taking on step back as I see rage in his eyes. “So you have a saying in the life of my wife” I cringe a little at the tone he use. “Listen, Tina hasn’t moved me off the list for a reason” I feel my tone drop dangerously low. “This is a mistake, I am not letting a dyke intervene” I see his fist ball up again. “Listen, I am…” his words die away as a neat Japanese doctor interrupts us.
