Chapter 4

It was the morning of the day that Dana had been looking forward to for 5 years, she was getting to spend the day with Alice, and not only Alice but with her son – how surreal was that she thought – she honestly thought that this day would never come, she had hardly slept a wink last night, tossing and turning worry about what she was going to say. Was she going to put her foot in it, and push Alice away before she had a chance to say sorry and explain, and would she ever get her chance to tell her that she still loved her.  The truth was Dana really never stopped loving Alice, she knew in her heart of hearts that Alice was the only one for her, she was just to selfish and downright stupid to see it all those years ago and for that she lost the love of her life.

The trouble was Alice seemed  so happy the old Alice was there again, all smiles and laughter but somehow motherhood seemed to have calmed Alice it was all so different to the Alice whose heart she broke five years previous.  She had a new life and had truly moved on.  Dana wanted desperately to be part of alice’s life again, but if she had to be content with friendship then that’s the way it would be.

Alice had also been awake for most of the night, worrying about the next day. Seeing Dana again had stirred up some old feelings in her she thought had disappeared along time ago, She knew they hadn’t gone completely she thought of Dana often, she caught glimpses of her on the TV and in the newspapers, she looked happy. Alice was so glad to see her again, but knew for her sake and for jakes that friendship was all she could offer, She couldn’t survive another broken heart. Alice had kept in her feeling in check for so long now, she dated a few people after Jake was born, but couldn’t get past that initial stage, it just didn’t feel right. So she decided she couldn’t and wouldn’t give her heart to anyone in that way again, it causes too much pain when it all comes tumbling down. Jake was her life and he received all her love.
