    Young Folks – Chapter 8

“Bon Appétit.” She smiled, placing the plate in front of Bette.

“Merci Beaucoup.” Bette grinned, as she picked up the fork. Just as she was about to place a piece into her mouth, she something struck her, she didn’t want the dessert to herself, she wanted to share it with the person who took trouble to bring some home for her.

Bette walked over to the dishwasher as retrieved another fork. She handed the fork to Helena and smiled, “How can I be so selfish to have all this to myself.”

“Aww…” Helena smiled, “Well, I guess it wouldn’t kill to have a second serving to this scrumptious dessert.”

The two of them sat next to each other at the kitchen table, savoring the dessert together.

After which, both remained in the kitchen drinking hot English tea while enjoying each other’s company. Helena noticed that Bette had the habit of unconsciously playing with the mood pendant attached to her necklace.

She recalled Bette telling her that the necklace was a gift from her mother before she passed on. The shape of the pendant intrigued her. Was Bette’s mother also an artist, thus explaining the significance of the paintbrush shaped pendant? Taking a chance, Helena asked curiously but politely, “If you don’t mind me asking, but was your mother an artist?”

“Yeah, she was. I’m sure that explains the shape of the pendant doesn’t it?”

“Art was her passion. She loved sketching and oil painting.” Bette continued with a smile on her face. Her mother was someone that she looked up to.

“When I was a little girl, she would bring me with her when she went painting at different locations. On some days, I would just sit and watch her work on her art. On other days, she would patiently sit down next to me and teach me how to sketch and paint.”

Helena smiled as she reminisced on the times when her grandfather brought her to museums and the times when he taught her to draw.

“So, I guess that explains my love for art.” Bette looked down onto her pendant.

“God, I miss her so much.” She murmured softly, as she felt a lump forming in her throat.

    1. Alice doesn’t understand that Bette has a life, maybe if she get her own life she wouldn’t have so much time to think about who Bette is fucking. Poor Helena, she has no idea what she did when she open the door and invited Alice in….lol. I can’t wait for the next chapter. pps.
