Alice: Okay so since you have nothing to hide how many lovers and/or wives have you had?

Bette: With all due respect I don’t think counting my lovers will help you arrive at a conclusion that I am trustworthy.

Alice: On the contrary I think it has everything to do with your sincerity toward my best friend. Shit for all I know this could be routine for you. You know the undying love bit.

Bette: Let me assure you I have never felt this way before about anyone.

Alice: Fare enough Bette but I think I at least deserve to know if you have gotten anyone else pregnant.

Bette: What! Don’t be absurd you don’t have to know such details.

Alice: Well just a minute ago you were telling me you had nothing to hide and now it seems that you want to hide the things that I know would matter the most to TK.

Bette said defeat: Four times. It’s happened four times.

Alice: My God Bette how could you! How could you sit hear and pretend that Tina is your forever when you already have four children by other women.

Bette shaking her head: You don’t understand.

Alice: Oh really what don’t I understand that you are working on your fifth child and I bet you did not even have the respect to marry any of these women.

Bette: It happened when I was 10 and 14 years old. My best friend and I got pregnant twice.

Bette holding her hands to her face and crying: What were we suppose to do. We had to abort the babies. We were just too young and our parents were furious.

Alice thought to herself, “Oh my God what have I done.”

Alice went over to Bette and embrace her: Bette I’m so sorry I didn’t mean to push you.

Alice felt the stain of tears on her own face. She didn’t know this woman but she could feel her pain. A pain she felt responsible for.

Later that afternoon they arrived back at Alice apartment. Alice had learned more information about Bette that she knew she should know and felt a sting of guilt as she could see Tina spacing in the kitchen from outside the door. Before she and Bette entered the house Bette lightly touched Alice to get her attention.

Bette pleading eyes: Please don’t tell Tina what we’ve talked about. I need to tell her on my own time.

Alice letting out the breath she was holding nodded her head in complete agreement.

Bette and Alice prepared themselves to enter Alice’s apartment and attempted to hide the pain they both felt inside.

Bette felt more exposed than ever and Alice felt shame for pushing Bette to the point of breakdown.

When they enter the apartment Tina could sense their sadness.

She had never seen Bette look so defeated before and Alice looked as though she had stolen something and got caught.

They both gave Tina bright perfect smiles.

Tina with her hands on her hips: Okay what happened?
