    Work to Do Chapter 13

Dana looked at Dr. Rudnick miserably.

“You asked me if I felt violated? Yes. Of course I did. But what I
didn’t say was I also felt validated. I didn’t just imagine it; Alice
loved me. ‘See? Alice couldn’t just forget about me.’ Ugh! I’m
    embarrassed.”

Alice stifled a strangled noise from the couch. She was staring at the ceiling.

Dana ignored her, continuing in a tired voice.

“I’m not sure exactly how I felt, but I knew I shouldn’t feel all of
it. Alice following me, watching us was such a breach of everything- I
was sickened, I was. I was angry. I still am, but I was also upset
with myself to find some comfort in something so screwed up.

Looking at Stella, Dana wiped away the only tear she’d shed all afternoon.

“When someone you love completely abandons you and leaves you wondering
if what they had felt for you was real you take what you can get.”

“Oh Dana,” Stella thought, checking to see if Alice was still alive.

The blonde was slumped back on the couch. She looked depleted.

The therapist thought for a moment, divided about how to proceed. There
were another five minutes or so left in the session. She was loathe to
stop here but equally unhappy about starting this conversation when
they wouldn’t be able to finish it.

It was Alice’s appearance that decided it for her. Stella could see
she’d been leveled by Dana’s confession. A break here, while
frustrating, was probably for the best.

“This is a good spot to stop,” she told them, nodding to Dana.

“Dana, you’ve given some amazing insight to how this all affected you.
I think Alice, when she’s had a chance to catch up, will be very
hopeful, as I am, about where we go from here.’

Standing, Dr. Rudnick reminded the girls that she could be reached
during the week if the need arose. She excused herself, leaving Alice
and Dana still sitting in her office.

For several moments neither spoke. Alice remained on the couch. She had
sat up and was sitting very carefully at the edge of the cushion.

Observing Alice, any relief Dana had felt from admitting her feelings, evaporated. “Alice,” she sighed. “Look at me.”

She knelt down in front of her. “Look at me, Al,” she said firmly.

    1. wow..you and layla give us an update in one nite…awesome. I love the way your story is progressing and how you go back and forth btwn past and present so easily and how you make it flow with everything. Gotta love Shane…she’s always helping these two see something that’s right there in front of them. Great chapter!!

    2. You’re the voice of reason in the mad world of Danish. The breakup was very real, a very mature view of the deterioration of their relationship. This is how I pictured it happening, by that point both of them were tired and angry whether at themselves or at each other. Dana’s reaction was perfect, as was Alice’s choice of words and her near implusive action.“Shane. I have a six by four foot BILLBOARD hanging in my living room that might as well be titled: Everyone Leaves.”I love this line, capturing the unseen truth behind that chart. I never even saw it as that but you got it right, that’s exactly what it is and it plays perfectly in Alice’s inability to deal in a relationship. She created what she fears the most, I don’t think IC & co will be able to provide that kind of insight. But that last line is just pure evil, now I’ll spend the week wondering what will happen in Dana’s place. :)

    3. Awww yay! “It’s five o’clock in the morning…you didn’t come here to kiss me did you?” thats my favorite line in this chapter, seeing how Alice likes to make mornig visits, lol awsome update, looking forward to the next chapter!

    4. Woo-hoo, I get so excited to see your updates! I love how you write this story and how it’s coming along. With all the awful rumors circulating about season 3 and Danish, this story is like therapy. Keep up the great writing.

    5. I hate to admit it, but I can completely identify with Alice’s defense mechanism that caused her to break up with Dana. She finally realized that she was protecting her own heart at Dana’s expense. I loved Shanes 5am statement and the dialogue Alice had with herself in her mind – trying to keep it together. What exactly were they doing on the floor of the doctor’s office, anyway?

    6. Capesquad, have read this three times and found something to think about each time – obsessed moi – never!!!! Great update and wonderful take on all of the rumours etc. Don’t you dare skip the conversation with Dana on her doorstep when Alice turns up for her ‘nap’!!!! Love it, Love it……yeah I love it! Enjoy Thanksgiving.

    7. Lol, it was 5am and Alice was at the wrong door. But I loved what Shane had to say! I really like the way you’ve written Shane and Alice’s communication in this scene, too realistic. Alice and Dana sure do have some issues, hopefully its nothing a little ‘nap’ can’t fix. *wink-wink-nudge-nudge* You know what I mean…Update soon!

    8. ok – totally love the premise of the chart and leaving. you are doing a great job of alleviating a bit of the spoiler pain and there is a lot of it. great story and update.

    9. OK, I’ve officially run out of superlatives. I didn’t manage to post a comment last week but the stalking update was great: I actually thought I wouldn’t mind seeing that storyline on the show if they could play it out and resolve it the way you’re writing it. And I love the way you break up the angst with the funny one-liners.

    10. I read a chapter of “Work to do” and think no other chapter can top that one and baaaam… The next one does!!! Really, I never thought about the depths of the chart and the whole story is brilliant. I do hope IC has at least a crew who could create and write at least %10 of your creativity and integrity. Cant wait to read the next chapter.
