Window of Opportunity ch. 75
Window of Opportunity
Chapter 75
Tina
In my wildest dreams, I never would have envisioned today being as wonderful as it was. Being surrounded by family and friends, hearing the wonderful vows that Bette expressed to me and the lovely words that Lillian said was something that would live in my heart forever. Alice, of course never ceases to amaze me. Just when I think I know her, she throws a curve that is so unexpected. Her words to Bette and me nearly brought the tears free flowing. Her words were so heartfelt and so on that I knew that she and the others would never allow us to lose one another again. I myself never anticipate losing Bette but it is a reassuring feeling to know that those who love us are also there to support us.
Not one who had ever seen the importance of marriage, I don’t think that I was adequately prepared when Lillian pronounced Bette and me wives. She was my wife. She was the person I was now married to. It was more than I could have hoped for. I was Bette Porter’s wife and nothing in the world could ever make me not want that. My doubts of a piece of paper having any significance was still there but the ceremony itself and the legal right to call her my wife is what to me was important. I’m glad that I got off my high horse and agreed to take this step with her. A commitment ceremony would have been good as well but to be part of the groundbreaking new law that allowed us to marry would be something that we could tell our children about when they went through life and faced struggles of their own. I owed it my family to take that step. I owed it to Bette to want to acknowledge our relationship and to our children to want to unite us as the family that we were in steps that were legally binding. I didn’t want if things ever got bad to have the option to just walk away. If they ever got bad, I wanted it be more difficult to leave causing me that time to think and make sure that was the right decision. I hope that never happens of course, because looking at Bette today, nothing makes me as happy as she does.

Tina was right, there is nothing more in life that’s better than being with the one you love in every sense of the word. Your description of the wedding, reception and everything was very beautiful almost as if we were there with them. This has been a wonderful journey to take with you and “our girls.” Thanks for posting.

No, it could not get much better that night for Bette and Tina. I loved the note that Angie had sent (of course with the help of an adult). Angie and her flower throwing duty must have been a sight to see. Love both of your stories.
