Where You Go There You Are

    Chapter 30

Bette hovered over the kettle waiting for it to boil.  She has already set out the tea pot, sugar and creamer, tea cups as well as a plate of cookies.   All of these items she had neatly arranged onto a serving tray.  Getting to this point of having all the essentials set up had taken up only a few minutes.  The hesitation and doubt about what the next step should be was not as neat.  Uncertainty plagued Bette and kept her constantly bouncing back and forth.

She couldn’t keep herself from stealing quick glance around the corner.  She had to check, to verify if this was all real.  Each time she checked all was confirmed by the vision of Tina relaxing in a pone position across the overstuffed leather couch.  Every time she looked there Tina was, leaning back, her head resting on the back cushions of the couch, her left hand resting across her brow, covering up her eyes.

Bette was glad Tina could take this time to relax and take the breather that Bette knew she needed.  Bette wishes for a moment that Tina had come home for her.  This wishful thinking is quickly set aside when the water kettle begin to rumble and hiss, the signs it makes before the full head of steam begins rattling the cap and whistling its song.  Bette quickly pulls the kettle off the flame not wanting the loud whistle to disturb Tina just yet.

Filling the tea pot, Bette took a moment to inspect, making sure everything looks perfect, she carries the tray into the living room.  The minute Bette walks back into the room, Tina feels her and straightens up immediately.  It was as if Tina had her own internal alarm that notified her of Bette’s presence.  Opening her eyes she removed her hand to look Bette straight on while she balanced the tray and moved into the room.

Greeting Tina with a quick smile meant to set her at ease, Bette then sets the tray down on the coffee table before taking a seat in the matching overstuffed chair perpendicular to the couch.  Not letting herself relax and sinking into the depth of the chair, Bette stays on the edge, leaning forward busying herself pouring the hot liquid into both of the cups.

    1. I know Tina is exhausted and worried but she needs to get a grip, she’s just being a nonstop bitch. And quite reactionary, I must say. Bette was perfectly right to yank her chain and Tina better get it together quickly so she doesn’t drive her daughter away for good.

    2. Hey, Tina may have a a few hard days, but she needs to back up a bit. She hasn’t even said that she’s glad to know that Angelica is safe and sound. And that if she ran anywhere at least she ran to people that Tina knows would take care of her. Good for Bette for finally giving some back.

    3. I get it, Tina is terrified. If Angie chooses to stay with Bette, regardless of the reasons, Tina will be all alone and she’s terrified of that. Even though she was lonely after she left Bette she had Angie. These two better start doing a little talking, and a lot of listening.

    4. you must be reading my mind. this is what i deal with most of my day, people who dont fucking listen. ive been tired before, but god people just do cuz they can and dont think about what theyve done. thx

    5. Tina is afraid that Angie will love Bette like everyone else does.also herself. Dhe hasn’t forgot how loveing kind and openhearted the gang is. Just afraid of losing her daughter. thanks

    6. Tina is being a nonstop biatch but she is scared out of her mind that Angie has found this particular set of people and that she might want to stay there. Tina is petrified but she should get herself together and remember they have kep her child safe when she could have been wandering around LA with no protection. Bette should have jumped into the middle of Tina’s shite. If I were Bette I would not talk to Tina anymore, she should just have James bring Angie home to Tina. Tina needs to talk with Shane before she talks to anyone else and get what Shane knows about her and how she got there because I’m sure Frankie has told Shane more than Bette knows. Then Tina should talk to Angie and find out how she came to be in LA without her friend and their family. She did not just run away and all that needs to be explained to Tina and the gang. Angie is young, very smart and headstrong. Thankfully she walked into Shane’s shelter with Frankie. Great chapter. I see you have already posted another chapter. Must go read.

    7. Ouch! I think Tina is too nervous to keep talking with Bette. I guess what truly bothers Tina is that she is scared that she doesn’t really know a lot of things about Angie. I hope she can get her shit together and listen to Bette for once! Great cahppie Jwet ;)

    8. Oh Tina…take a breath and maybe a valium. Wow she’s really all fired up. I’m sure Bette will calm her down given the opportunity to get a word in. Thanks for writing.
