    Wanna Date? Chapter 18

As perverse as it sounded, she kind of missed bossy old Bette, who could take control and make her decisions for her. Tina halted that train of thought quickly. No, she had wanted autonomy, and her choice to submit herself to Bette’s will for too many years had been one of the main problems in their marriage. However, everyone likes to be taken care of sometimes, to just relax and let someone else take over.

If she and Bette were to be happy together, there is no way Bette could keep this up for years, this suppression of her nature. She might be making herself less over bearing, but that take charge attitude was part of her personality – her confidence and strength were a part of her. She couldn’t keep up a fa&#231ade of calm acceptance for the next 40 years without going mad. Tina came to the realization that she wanted Bette to be herself, not what she thought Tina wanted. You could only really ever make changes in yourself for one person. You. Trying to change yourself for someone else could never really work in the long run.

She looked into Bette’s beautiful face. She genuinely did look more at ease these days, but she was still treating Tina like she was made of cut glass. Eventually, that could shatter and the wounds and bloodshed would be nasty.

Bette’s impatient shifting in the doorway brought her out of her laboured metaphoric rambling, and made her realize she had been staring at Bette. Tina took a pace backwards, holding the door open wide and appreciating Bette’s happy smile at the invitation.

“I’m fine for drinks, and I’ve had a bath, but I would love to just relax and maybe listen to some music or watch a film. That OK babe?”

Bette practically leapt for joy. “Yes! I would love that T. Say, you wouldn’t have any popcorn would you?” Her fantasy for the evening was coming true, and Bette couldn’t be happier.

“Sure, in the cupboard.” Tina made her way to the sofa, sinking down carefully and putting her aching feet up on a small footstool. She listened to Bette rummaging in the kitchen and heard the microwave whir into life. It sounded like Bette was humming again too. Tina smiled at Bette’s happiness. She felt content, and comfortable. The sound of Bette pottering around was so familiar and just seemed so right. Was this what she wanted back? The ease of a committed relationship?

    1. Loved this chapter. Both of them want to say so much, but cannot come up with just the right words. Bette is going to further surprise Tina, because I think she’s going to tell Tina exactly how she feels — she’s willing to finally show Tina all of her vulnerabilities to regain her true love. Can’t wait for the next chapter. Thanks.

    2. I totally agree with Lsbn’s comment ! Bette is sooo cute this way…

This evening around Some Like it Hot (what a delight, this movie, by the way !) was such a sweet shared moment…

    4. Bette is so cute when she’s unsure and shy. Tina is pretty cute too with her inner dialogue about what she wants. It will be sad to see this story end, it’s been a great read. You have filled in the blanks wonderfully.
