    Vignettes: Chapter 27

She was out of answers and out of time, she realized as she looked at her watch. Pretty soon the women would send out a search party for her, so she stood and brushed off the dusty dry dirt off her bottom. She stretched and set another steady pace for the jog back to Alices as her mind swam with questions that werent followed by any answers.

As Tina jogged up to the house, she took her time walking up the stairs, her legs feeling like lead. Her heart raced as she played over and over again what she would say when she walked in the door. Casual, she would play it cool and calm, pretending like nothing had happened and shed race to the shower. She opened the door and immediately saw all the women in the living room, laughing and talking among several objects in Bettes lap and on the couch. Bette and Shane were still covered in dirt.

Hi guys. Tina said, taking off her shoes.

Everyone looked up at Tina, then looked at Bette to see what interaction would happen between them. Hi Tina. They all said.

Im just gonna hit the shower. Tina said. But as she walked by the couch, some of the things caught her eye. Whats all that stuff?

Just some old memories that were buried away. Bette said, looking at Tina.

Why bother digging them back up? Tina asked, obviously recognizing some of the things and obviously rattled by the mornings turn of events. Her tone was short and snappy.

It was impulsive, I know. Bette said. But Shane and I were reminiscing about the past and I decided to dig it up.

    Where was it?

    In our old backyard.

    When did you do this?

    Right before I moved.

Oh. Tina replied, clearly interested in looking through some of the things, but remaining stubborn.

Why dont you sit with us? Bette nervously offered.

Tina shook her head. No thanks.

Dana, Alice and Shane remained quiet, all three feeling like they were intruding. Bette sighed and said under her breath, I tried.

We both tried. Tina muttered as she turned away.

Not hard enough. Bette shot back, loud enough for Tina to hear.

Tina turned around and looked directly at Bette, thinking about what to say. Bette can I talk to you? Alone?

Now? I thought you wanted a shower. Bette said, caught off guard as her pulse started to quicken and she felt her throat constrict.

    Now.

    1. My heart continues to break for these two women, chapter and chapter. They so clearly still love each other, surely you can find a way to bring them back together.

    2. No offense to the other writers, but it boggles my mind that this story did not win an award. I am at a loss as to why it didn’t win. This story is the bomb in my book.

    3. i seriously do not even know what to begin to say. i think that this story is just so well written and so well told. you have a great ability of taking us wherever you wish, be it at the beach in Provincetown or the living room of Alice’s house. absolutely amazing and for that- i sincerely thank you!

    4. Hmm…don’t quite have a read on Tina at this moment, so I’m looking forward to her and Bette in the next installment. Bette kind of took the coward’s way out with the letter, and the “it was written a long time ago” line.

    5. I am truly in awe of this story fareast…..You are one hell of a storyteller…i have no idea where you are planning on taking us, but i can feel the love B & T still obviously have for each other……..you give us a taste every chapter (and a bit of hope) and leave us hanging out for more every single time…..I love it!!!!…….Next one soon i hope??……Thank you:)

    8. You are such an incredible writer. I think the only reason you didn’t win an award this time was because the story has not yet developed far enough. I get so happy every time that I see you post. You will definitely win next time. Thanks for writing this beautiful story, can’t wait for the next installment.

    9. Before I read this I want to say one thing:
You should have received a Fanfic Award.
I’m sorry you didn’t. But please know that this fic and your previous one were both worthy of an honor.
      Thank you!
