    Vignettes: Chapter 27

Tina stood behind the couch letting the envelope rest in her hand as she felt the worn paper between her fingers. She had plans to go running with Dana, but all she wanted to do was curl up somewhere quiet and alone while she ripped open the envelope to read what the pages inside held. As her mind played tug of war as to which option to choose, she didnt notice Bette and Shane stirring on the couch in front of her. Shane shifted and continued sleeping, but Bette was awakened by the movement and slowly opened her eyes, adjusting to the light of morning. She saw Tina standing above her with something in her hand. Suddenly she saw Tinas name scratched on the paper in her own handwriting. As the nights activities started to come back to her, she saw a dirty Shane sleeping next to her and she felt the box cradled between them. She noticed the lid had come off and things were spilling out. She looked back to Tina who still hadnt noticed she woke up.

    Tina? Bette asked groggily.

Tinas head whipped around and her cheeks immediately flushed as she was caught in the act of taking the letter. Bette… good morning.

    Whats that in your hand?

Oh… nothing. I mean, I saw it next to you on the couch and saw it had my name on it… so –

So you thought youd take it and read it? Didnt you think that maybe you should wait until I gave it to you? What if I didnt want you to read it?

Tinas cheeks reddened even more and she looked down, suddenly feeling remorseful and selfish. She handed it back to Bette. Im sorry. I just wanted to know what it said.

Alice and Dana stood behind Tina, watching the whole scene, their eyes wide. Neither said a word and they were speechless anyway, both dying to know how this situation would unfold right in front of them. Tina turned away and took a step to head towards the front door.

Tina, wait. Bette began as Tina faced her once more. You didnt let me finish.

    1. My heart continues to break for these two women, chapter and chapter. They so clearly still love each other, surely you can find a way to bring them back together.

    2. No offense to the other writers, but it boggles my mind that this story did not win an award. I am at a loss as to why it didn’t win. This story is the bomb in my book.

    3. i seriously do not even know what to begin to say. i think that this story is just so well written and so well told. you have a great ability of taking us wherever you wish, be it at the beach in Provincetown or the living room of Alice’s house. absolutely amazing and for that- i sincerely thank you!

    4. Hmm…don’t quite have a read on Tina at this moment, so I’m looking forward to her and Bette in the next installment. Bette kind of took the coward’s way out with the letter, and the “it was written a long time ago” line.

    5. 8. You are such an incredible writer. I think the only reason you didn’t win an award this time was because the story has not yet developed far enough. I get so happy every time that I see you post. You will definitely win next time. Thanks for writing this beautiful story, can’t wait for the next installment.

    9. Before I read this I want to say one thing:
You should have received a Fanfic Award.
I’m sorry you didn’t. But please know that this fic and your previous one were both worthy of an honor.
      Thank you!
