    True Love Way – Chp 1 (Re-written)

This envelope was heavier and there was a bulge. She took the badge out and grinned.

    Duh.

As if anyone else would get this. There it was, a ‘P’ with a snake around it, beautifully decorated. She grinned cockily as she noticed how the ‘P’ could either stand for ‘Prefect’ or… ‘Porter’. The shilver shone in the soft light. She would take care of this one – find her some stupid first-year to clean it for her every day.

She opened the letter that accompanied it.

    Dear Ms Porter,

we are pleased to inform you that we have found you fit to take upon you the role of Prefect to your House, Slytherin. Your badge, which you are to wear at any time, is included. You are expected to spend the train ride to Hogwarts at the date of September 1, 2009 in the Prefect Compartment. It is also your duty to guide the first-years to your common room that same evening. There will also be a gathering on the date of September 4, 2009, which you are to attend and which is organized to inform all Prefects about their duties.

    Yours sincerely,

    Minerva McGonagall
    Deputy Headmistress

Ever since she attended Hogwarts – even before, when she came to think of it – she had known this day would come. She would be Prefect. Her father was way too important and it would be a stupid mistake to honor any other girl with this title. Melvin Porter was a man with a lot of influence… too much to go wrong in the tiniest detail. But still, she liked to think it was an accomplishment of her own as well. After all, Alice Pieszecki’s mom wasn’t exactly a nobody either.

She took her cellphone out. Being of pure blood, she was against everything Muggle, but as she was not allowed to use magic – even her father was not powerful enough to protect her if she’d break this low – this thing came in handy. She texted Alice, upon whom she had forced one of the things as well, about the news.

She looked up to find Sophie still stanging there. “You can go now,” Bette said, supporting her command with a vague wave of her hand.

    “Miss,” Sophie bowed.

Bette couldn’t stop grinning. Oh, this was going to be so much fun! She could finally extract points because of bad behaviour of a Gryffindor, just because she considered it bad. Just because she wanted to – she’d find a reason one way or another. She was Bette Porter and Bette Porter always got away with everything.

She wondered who the male Prefect would be and who the Prefects of the other Houses were. She hoped that the filthy annoying Muggle-loving half blood Kennard wouldn’t make it. She sometimes wondered what they were thinking at Hogwarts, making even traitors or Mudbloods Prefect, like Davis, who has one year their senior. Hufflepuff was obvious – Robbie Barclay and Samantha Jones. Ravenclaw would probably get Frederic (who refused to be called Freddy by anyone but Bette) Roman and Gwen Bonifier. Gryffindor was quite unpredictable – hopefully that Dana Fairbanks, at least a pure blood. She couldn’t care less, she told herself.

“Yes!” she shouted out, not able to stop herself.

She thought about all the priviliges, her newly regained power, the Prefect’s bathroom that, according to legend, was huger than any bath anyone had ever seen. She could now command people and they would have to listen to her by rule, not by unwritten law.

This was great. This year would be awesome. For the first time in her life, she couldn’t wait for her driver to take her to King’s Cross. It was something she always hoped wouldn’t happen one way or another, but now she wished August would just go by in one day and she would wake up tomorrow in September.

    1. Hey Genner, Good to have you back and continuing this magical and mysterious concoction of stories. I do hope Bette gets knocked down a peg or two by Tina. Then a fine romance can begin. Please post more soon. Many thanks from Your Loyal Fan.
