Chapter 8- Divorce and Basketballs

            A week later, school started up again. The summer was over and Jess and Alex’s relationship had only gotten deeper and stronger. Alex has really settled in with Carmen and Shane.  Shane and Carmen have been having a hard time, every night Shane took the couch, being thrown out by Carmen for some stupid reason. Alex started to hear them yell more, which was really unusual. Right now, Carmen was in a really bad mood and was yelling at Shane, in their bedroom.

Carmen: You just HAVE to go and shower EVERY NIGHT!

Shane: Yeah, it’s called keeping clean!

Carmen: You don’t need a shower every night Shane! It’s a waste of water.

Shane: Carmen, I cut hair for a living! What do you do after getting your hair cut? Take a shower. Unless, you want me to get into bed every night with other people’s hair all over me!

Alex was outside their room, homework in hand. She heard every word.

Carmen: Well that can be solved!

Carmen went over and ripped Shane out a couple pairs of clothes from her closet and threw them outside the room. She then pushed Shane out and slammed the door shut.

Shane: You can’t keep me out of my own room forever!

Alex was standing behind Shane, the homework lossely clutched in her hand.

Alex: Umm, beer?

Shane: That’d be great!

Shane went and sat on the couch as Alex went and grabbed her a beer from the fridge. She handed it to Shane before taking a seat across from her on the floor. Shane took a swig and sighed.

Alex: Well, I know it’s probably the last thing you want to do right now but, any clue on how to do grade 9 algebra?

Shane: Oh, right school! Umm

She scratched her head.

Shane: I might remember some of it.

Alex opened her books and Shane helped her out. An hour passed and Alex had finally finished, she shut her books.

Shane: So, how was the first day?

Alex: Alright, met some new people.

Shane: Good, when does basketball start?
